Would it have been "legal" if OB "blocked" the kick in end zone?

Know this is a VERY obscure rule (if there is one), but OB said he was trying to block the FG if he could. I do not know for sure, but think it is a penalty to have someone in the end zone who "blocks" a kick. If not, why would you not have a tall player in the end zone for any kick over 45 yards or so? Anyone know the rule book to know if this is possible? Thanks

Good question. Seriously.

same context....I was thinking....What if he got tackled at the 20 yard line on the return....Do we get the ball at the 20 or where they kicked it from?

I would think so. In the postgame video from Geaux247 OBJ actually said he was hoping the kick was higher so he'd have a change to swat it. I wouldn't think he would have said or thought that if it was illegal.

two shots if they're in the bonus.

seriously i heard they used to have the tallest guy on the team stand by the goal and try to swipe it away. then they made a rule making it illegal. not sure where i heard that, curious to know if its true

On the 20. That's why it's risky and rarely done. The only time I've ever seen done is at the end of a half where field position doesn't matter because the clock is expiring. I remember Antonio Cromartie taking one back about four years ago.

How would it not be the same as blocking at the line of scrimmage?

if he could reach it, he could block it as long as he didn't touch the goal posts.

It absolutely is legal. No question about it. The first reason he was back there was to block the field goal, if possible. The second option is to return the field goal.
