Malcolm Jenkins is extremely difficult to watch

First, the bad angle early in the game against Harry Douglas. Then, the terrible tackling throughout the game. And to top it all off, the ball on the very last drive that Mark Ryan threw to Douglas in which all Jenkins had to do was act like he wanted to deflect the ball...but no, he just watched it fall to Douglas to get the Falcons to the 7.
He's fricking awful. I know he's got the Jesus and he has this little bowtie charity thing he does and he's probably a swell guy to talk to at a dinner party. But he's a godawful safety. I wouldn't hate it if he moved back to nickel or dime back but not safety. He's the worst.
This was a very solid debut for Ryan's new defense and our new scheme. I'm very intrigued by the defensive line and Kenny Vaccaro. Even our linebackers played really well. frick, even Will Herring made a play.

He was pretty atrocious except for that strip and fumble that Harper recovered. I never would have thought Harper would have proved his worth before Jenkins, but so be it. After this year, he's gone IMO. Too many young options with Vaccaro, IAQ, and Bush

I think there is a reason why he has never moved back to corner, but at this point, and if Robinson is hurt, we may as well move him to corner #3 and let Vaccaro man the spot.

That was my thinking if Robinson or Lewis were really hurt yesterday. I think Lewis got back on the field in the second half.
Too bad for Bunkley and Walker too. I don't hate that Jon Jenkins got to play a lot, either.

agreed... he was just nothing more than a steaming-hot pile of shite on the field. His bad angle was flat out embarassing.
Then I saw him dragging coverage across the field in the end zone on a play and he couldnt keep up with the receiver, so we cant even move him to CB to get some value.
I was suprised to see Harper and Jenkins starting with the way KV has played. I guess hes still a bit of a liability.
The terribly slow Harper actually had a pretty decent game. Or maybe thats just becuase Jenkins looked so awful it actually made Harper look good.
You know, the same reason ugly chicks hang out with fat chicks: makes them look more attractive.

I've been saying it since he went out at the end of last year, and IAQ took his spot for the last 3 games; he needs to go. I'd much rather see IAQ or Bush take over his spot for now. I don't think either of those guys are long term solutions, but IAQ at least showed he's able to cover the deep 1/3, and has some ball skills, which Jenkins severely lacks at both.

Actually, I think it's the opposite.
I'm fairly certain Harper was been better than Jenkins for a while.
I think Jenkins has just made him look worse than he really is.
Jenkins is just...I don't know.
I mean, could he have more potential?

Because you don't see him come into the picture until the play is over.
Then you can watch him standing over the guys who made the play taunting the offensive player...every week.

Everyone loves to hate on Roman, but he played well yesterday. Had some good coverage on Gonzo on several key drives. I like the playing close to the line.
Jenkins just doesn't seem to see the field very well when hes playing back. Hes got to be able to see the big picture, and close on the play.
On the flip side, it seemed like everytime there was a tackle, #32 was in the frame. Thats what you want in a safety, a guy whos gonna see the play develop and get in position to stop it.

Harper, while terrible in coverage, actually has things that he does well. Jenkins on the other hand, does not.

Jenkins simply has no football skills. Remember Sammy Knight? Knight did not have the talent of some of these NFL safeties, but he had ball skills. He knew how to play the game and the ball in the air. Jenkins has none of this. He can't or doesn't locate the ball and of course, the bad angles. The first pass of the final ATL drive should have been picked by Jenkins.

roman harper had a good game, malcolm gonna malcolm
I love that people still think vaccarro is replacing harper. it was clear yesterday who he is replacing.

he didn't play well last year...nobody did. I didn't like the vaccarro pick but it was clear which player was in serious doo doo...jenkins

Other than completely blowing backside containment on Jackson's 50-yard run, Harper seemed to have a very solid game

You're ridiculous for this thread.
For some of you that hate on Jenkins' tackling ability:
Jenkins - 94 Tackles in 13 games last year. That puts him in the top 10 tackling safeties whilst missing 3 games of the season.
Led the team in tackles last night and made YET ANOTHER TD saving tackle on Jackson's long run. Shouldn't have even been his play to make since Harper blew the line up and missed the tackle in the backfield. He did not take a bad angle on this play either; if you watch the play, he avoided a lineman that got in between him and Jackson. Had he accepted this block he would have never made the TD saving tackle.
Those of you who say he takes "terrible angles." Shut up. He doesn't. And you can't prove to me or anyone else that he does. I'll admit his ball skills aren't the best, but he is opportunistic and makes big plays, and hustles well. He's the best option we have right now and he played well not only last season, but last night as well.

Jenkins is beyond terrible. He has no ball skills. He always reacts late seeming to indicate he has no instincts and maybe even a limited football IQ. He also takes bad angles. It is time to let him walk after the season. That experiment was a failure.

Hey tough guy, check your puffy chest at the door. On Harry Douglas' long reception early in the game, the goddamn Fox commentator blatantly said, as they watched the replay, "Jenkins takes a bad angle".
If you can't see that he takes terrible angles and you knight for him this hard, then you're one of two things: A. Malcolm Jenkins or B. Malcolm Jenkins' mom.
And before you cite tackles as your awful strawman argument for Jenkins, just know that Adam Archuleta used to lead his team in tackles, too. He might be a worse player than Jenkins. It's no fricking surprise to anyone that a safety had so many tackles on the worse defense in NFL recorded history.
Congratulations, Malcolm, form up the bust and work on your speech.

BTW, what a stupid effin experiment it was. Dude was balling in the pats game and the SB at corner. He had alot of promise there.
now he is a waste.

quote:If you do not think he CONSISTENTLY takes bad angles (not only on tackles, but on passes), I have to question your knowledge of the game. Stevie Wonder can see that clearly. He is almost always out of position.

When your FS is doing this it is more evidence of how poorly the front 7 are playing than how good he is.

Seems to be a cool and heckuva good guy. Just not the skills to excel in the NFL. Brandon LaFell (a marginal #2 NFL WR) could prolly still eat him up in man coverage like he did in the 2008 BCSNCG.
