Cameron looked like our most poised player with the ball last night
In the second half, when he was playing right in front of Gonzalez and Besler and wasn't under any kind of pressure, he was fine on the ball.
We wouldn't have gotten out of our own half in the first half without Jones. Costa Rica was pressuring well, and Cameron's inability to work in tight areas forced him to find a center back virtually every time that he received the ball. He would have been eaten alive by Bosnia's midfield, and those are the types of teams that we should be looking to beat. There's poise, and then there's playing an easy ball because you took a shitty touch and are now being closed down by three people.
Wrt Jones, I don't really understand the degree of difficulty on ~30% of the shite that he does.

Not even close. Jones gets the most shite out of anyone on the team. I think his biggest detractors don't understand why he's important or what he's there for.
ETA - this video is also underrated LINK /

What's the secret? The midfield got bossed around last night.
In terms of intangibles, did anyone see him collapse exasperatedly on his knees when Besler played a weak pass to him in the 89th minute? How about his unnecessarily reckless sliding tackle in the box?

It's not really a secret. I was pretty drunk last night so it's hard to paint a picture but it seems people thought Cameron looked good but in the first half all I noticed was a bunch of negative, safe passes.
And for all the talk of Jones being the reckless, dangerous one, he's not the one suspended for Tuesday's game.

WHAT
with any pressure, he just kicked it back to Besler and Gonzales

He was the only one who looked like he could make a pass going forward, or even move forward with the ball himself. Can you tell me what Jones did last night that merits Hendo's obsession?
I get it, he plays a great role for Schalke and does it well. He just doesn't really have a set role for the US and isn't very good when "doing his own thing."

I don't have an obsession with Jones at all. I just think it's stupid how much shite he gets when more often than not, he performs pretty well for the national team.

That's kind of what I noticed too. Our midfield was pretty shitty last night, all the way around to be honest.

Oh, I agree. He's one of our best two midfielders.
That said, he has no positional awareness and is pretty terrible at communicating with his teammates, staying positionally disciplined, etc. I think that hurts us in the end.

evidently out of position last night. He looked like an English CB caught upfield.

bah, he was a fish out of water. at least he saw what to do (maybe couldn´t do it, but saw it, which didn´t look to be something others were doing).

He did seem to be uncomfortable trying to play a more Michael Bradley type role. I think Mixx next to him may make him feel more comfortable.

We probably shouldn't judge anyone on that game last night given Bradley's late drop (except Beasley, we can judge him). Cameron is probably supposed to just be safe in that spot. Jones just didn't look into it that much. He made some incisive forward passes, or so I thought from what I could see on my feed.
Most disappointing to me was Besler. I don't know wtf he was thinking.
Gonzales looked good enough, and at least you could tell he was really into the game.
Dempsey is frustrating to me. Maybe I just don't like him. That said, I don't trust anyone else other than him, Jozy, and LD to kick it into the back of the net when given the chance, so he has to start against Mexico. I just hope that JK pulls him when he needs to be pulled.

Both CBs were atrocious last night. Having three attackers running to the back post and both CBs ball watching on the second goal was absolutely inexcusable.
Besler should have pulled Campbell down and taken the card before the third goal.
Embarrasing display by many last night, led by Orozco.... but the two CBs were almost as bad.

I'm not sure why we kept expecting Donovan to win balls in the air. And Dempsey didn't do enough to impose himself on the match.

Been saying it for a while, people put too much stock in his schalke play (which is admittedly better) mostly because of their bundesliga fandom..

Yeah, luckily for the rest of the league though pep's style doesn't seem to fit them quite as well as jupp.
