Borussia won the league the two previous years though.

They elected to go for UCL glory instead of the German domestic double because they lack the depth of Bayern who pulled off a treble in a historically underrated season. Bayern were special last season.

Sheep, Omar was pressuring the cross that Beasley got abused on on the 2nd goal. Watch the replay, you can clearly see Besler telling Beasley to mark the goalscorer backpost.
I think OG played decent last night, far from atrocious...
How long will this board defend Beasley? The dude will lose us games single handedly once we start playing the big boys.. He shouldn't get a pass just because he's been around over a decade.

Jermaine was piss poor the first half. No question.

He is still better than Cameron. Cameron's role is to quell Jones IMO if Jermaine goes full retard and accumulates yellows, which he did not do.

Also, Eddie Johnson should not play another meaningful minute in this cycle.

No one is defending Beasley. LB is hell to play and there is no depth anywhere across the world.

I want Fabian there even if the creation suffers. Imagine how bad Beasley would get raped against a Robben, on form di Maria, or Lavezzi.

Beasley is like 4'11", and there were three attacking players at the far post. Besler was sitting in space doing nothing, and Orzco was still tracking back/providing cover for Gonzalez (who was out there because Orzco was caught up the field--I don't remember why).

Yeah, I don't think that anyone is going to argue that he played at a remotely acceptable level for the first third of the game.

When no one is suspended, I would put FJ at LB with Zusi and LD on the wings. And Orozco should never play for us again.

Also as pointed out by an MLSsoccer.com post, Jones effort was lackluster as evidenced on this goal and isn't he supposed to be a defensive mid?

quote:

The whole sequence for the first goal happened after a very, very lazy Jones turnover. The second goal – the one-on-three – happened because he was busy ball-watching and didn't stay with the run of Celso Borges, the eventual goal-scorer.

Borges starts 10 yards behind Jones and outruns him anyway, as shown below:

As long as he's shoehorned into that spot, IMO.

HE'S A frickING FORWARD PLAYING DEFENSE.

He looks at least as good as Donovan or Dempsey or Eddie Johnson would in that position.

It's like Les Miles putting a linebacker at QB, flipping the game on and saying "This QB isn't worth a frick."

I would love to swap Johnson and Beasley and see what happens.
