Use your hand, gigs are for figs and Yankees. Don't wear boots because you will most certainly have to get in the water a few times. I usually wear crocs in case I have to shed them quickly. Keep the light in their eyes and the motor running, this will put them into a trance. Snatch they arse/profit

Is it easy to tell the difference between a snake/gator/frog
Very easy, your gonna end up right on top of them before you snatch. My wife is a yuppie and she enjoys froggin

Then use paddle to push boat off bank and back on track. Pisses me off when folks are too busy looking at the frog in their hand to push the boat off and get back to business.

The gig vs grab is situational IMO. I've been in gumbo mud and you definitely want something other than hands. We used a pole net and it worked beautifully. Tried to get out the boat once and sank to my belly. Frogs were too far off the water to pull right up to them.
I bring two ice chests to keep the frogs off the cold-pops. Last lady to come with us didn't care too much for us banging them on the side of the boat.

Went for the first time this year, easily one of my favorite things to do now. We were jumping off the bow of the boat like we were chasing pigs. Guy I was with didn't miss a single one, SOB would just jump straight into a bush and come out with a frog every time

Rule 1: If you are from Louisiana and not scared gators and snakes will leave you alone. They smell fear and yankees. That's a fact jack! Just ask Si Robertson!
Rule 2: Don't Gig anyone else.
Rule 3: Dont drink too much but have a good time.
Rule 4: Have a good time.
Rule 5: Video it on your phone so that if you act like a idiot and do something really stupid we all can enjoy it.
Rule 6-10: See Rule 4.

How'd it take 4 pages for this to be posted? Some of the funniest happenings in the wild occur while frogging.

This must be a quiz. You forgot to add "What very important item is missing from the above list?"

Or people who like getting frogs that are too far off the bank for the boat. We grab everyone we can, but sometimes they are just places you can't get to, gig solves that problem.
Oh and whoever said frogs taste better when you get out the boat and get in the water for them, true story.

I'm not too good to grab one by hand. I will do that if he's close. I enjoy using a gig though. It's almost like a caveman stabbing a mammoth with a sharp stick.

My issue with the gigs is that a lot of them get away after you stick them. A frog with 3 or 4 holes in him won't live long, but he can sure as hell get away from you.
Same thing happens with a pellet gun (I've heard). Shoot him anywhere but right between the eyes and the bastard jumps in the water. (.22 will blow them clean in half)
Shooting one with a bow (in theory) would work, but they can theoretically jump up and get off the fletching side of the arrow before you can get to them. Bowfishing setup would theoretically solve this problem.

I gigged several last time and it basically just pinned them in the mud. I still had to get out an grab them with my hands regardless.

Sharpen your gigs. You aren't getting good enough penetration.

So we went out around Madisonville from about 9:00-11:15. Water was very high. Saw about 15 of them. The first one we saw as soon as we went into the first cut, I grabbed and said 'this shite is easy'
Well I missed the next 5 or 6. Ended up spooking the other 7-8 that we saw. It was still an awesome time and we will be doing this again. I need grabbing practice. Those frickers are slippery

Do Coonasses catch them or gig them?
Was nothing to pick up 50 a night and very easy pickins.
