And if the Pelicans coverage sucks like the Nola.com, you think people introduced to the paper via the Pelicans will continue to buy?
And no, I will not triple post a response.

One of my favorite things about mornings at LSU was being able to get several newspapers for free. I actually liked USA Today's sport section the best. Never was a fan of the Advocate. I grew up reading the TP so I am somewhat bias to it but it has obviously gone way down the shitter.

Not bad.

Was borderline mediocre when I was in law school.

T.P. should be ashamed to call itself the T.P. today. Barely a shell of its former self. A good portion of the talent now writes for the Advocate. And the Advocate is getting to be much better.

stating something contrary to your opinion, that print media is going the way of law school admissions standards, is not being a dick.

I don't think that word means what you think it means in this contex.
I have not called out any media outlet, nor stated that i am advocating print media goes away. It is going away all on its own.
You're inability to graps that this is not about quality reporting, but selling more papers and ads is simply wrong.
here you go
Saints Official Partners
Do you think that Crystal is on there because the team took a vote? Negative sir. They paid to have that "official" status.
The sad thing is that is the ONLY thing I started out trying to get you to grasp.
And good luck finding that link in print

But it is short sighted. People were pronouncing Blockbuster Video dead about 10-15 years early. Just because people are moving away from print doesn't mean it will be a quick death. The 7 day a week print edition is a big deal and part of the equation here, even if it doesn't exist in 5 years.

You're the only one that thinks this is about quality reporting, you're arguing as if people are saying Benson gave the Advocate some journalistic integrity award. You're either really bad at reading comprehension or really bad at picking fights.

corndeaux
thats where it started.
my first post was
and your OP
i never made this about quality reporting. never. please link that post. My statements are about the pros of web based news over print and that this has nothing to do with who the Benson's think has better reporters.
and for good measure, since you mentioned blockbuster, they are moving to streaming only. if you have disk at home service, they sent a message saying to keep the disk you currently have as a 'gift'... everything is online.
the simple end to this entire thread is that being the "official" anything is about paying $$$ for it. Has nothing to do with the product or the franchises opinion of it. I hope the reporting is great. I have no problem with the continuation of a 7 day paper. I choose to get my news online where it is up to the minute.

Like this a lot. This town needs a better class of professional NBA writers. Hopefully this move pushes TP/Advocate to make it happen
thats where it started.
my first post was
quote:sic
You people think this has anything to do woth reporting?
The advocate paid sponsorship dollars. No different than mcdonalds or people's health.
Absolutely nothing to do with who they think is better
and your OP
quote:
It will be interesting to see if there is improved coverage of the team with more professional competition. I know the team itself has stepped up their coverage with the Black and Blue report and official Pelicans blogger Jim Eichenhofer has been putting out a lot of good content lately considering how light the news is right now.

Um...you said it twice in your first post
quote:
You people think this has anything to do woth reporting?
Absolutely nothing to do with who they think is better
and then another
quote:
the "relationship" you speak of is one paying the other $$$ so it can say it is the official paper. Will have zero effect on the writing staff or quality of reporting.
and then another
quote:
Do you think that Crystal is on there because the team took a vote? Negative sir. They paid to have that "official" status.
This last one implied that people in this thread think Benson picked the "better" paper. No one here is some naive rube, we know Benson picked the more advantageous paper. Before your first post the only comments made about quality were by me and corndeaux, and both statements very clearly alluded to the HOPE that increased COMPETITION would be the catalyst for improving journalistic quality, not that any high level of journalistic quality was currently present in either organization.
Print dying is obviously some topic near and dear to your heart and has you tilting at windmills because you're arguing about things that haven't really been said.

oh my...
any chance I said this because of this?
that is where someone else said it could improve the quality of reporting.
then my FIRST post says.... lets circle back....
I pointed out that this is an attempt to sell more product and ads. thats it. companies do that in a number of ways including sports sponsorships. thats all this is. so you see rita looking all excited about her new partner... its noting but her new revenue so that the Advocate can get additional revenue. reporting is not an issue here.
but your going to keep thinking whatever you want. just don't twist my words.

You keep acting as multiple people in this thread have said the motivation behind the selection of the Advocate as the official paper had anything to do with reporting quality. corndeaux saying he hopes better coverage is a result of this selection is not the same thing as saying the selection was made to improve reporting. You're the one twisting words. If you hadn't been doing that this thread probably would have died on the first page as it should have. I'm willing to chalk this up to a simple misunderstanding and move on, but you kind of were the driving force in turning this mole hill into a mountain.

no, I have continued to say it has ZERO to do with the quality of reporting and is 100% about one group paying the other for an "official" status.
quote:

where did I say that? seriously? Thats why you want to back out... you came back, saw me defending myself without reading how we got here and now realize i never said anything about improving reporting or anything to that nature. ever.
hey look at this... turns out YOU said that
quote:
I wouldn't be surprised if the terrible Bounty Gate coverage by certain TP reporters played a role in this decision, but Benson said it all, they went with the paper that's still printing 7 days a week. It's not just about sponsorship dollars, it's also about exposure
I believe it has clearly become a misunderstanding and without a doubt i feel i am being painted as arguing a position I have zero interest in.
regardless, I agree that this conversation is off tract.
my positions have been steadfast...
1)print < web based news
2)this is a sponsorship, not a tipping of the hat to the Advocate. They paid for this.
Posted on 9/6/13 at 10:42 am to TigerinATL
All anyone said is that that they hope we get better reporting as a result. Not unreasonable for a new sponsorship that is directly related to coverage. That does not imply that the sponsorship itself was based upon the relative quality of the two publications in the first place.
Seems Mr Perfect simply wanted to be didactic, albeit coming off as jejune.

Given its current state, primary reliance web based news , with some exceptions, is shallow and for those suffering from ADD.

I agree with this in most circumstances. Just because you can get instant stock information (or whatever you are looking for), does not mean you can instantly digest it and use the information. And tons of "facts" fly around the web daily that we know are not facts.

There's something to be said for a legitimate editorial board

I'll take the blame.
I'm the a-hole that hoped an investment in the Pelicans from the Advocate now would lead to more serious coverage of the team going forward.
