Went to look at a used highlander other day. Didn't care for it, but they had another one on lot, listed for 29k. Said that was more than I was willing to spend...manager came by and asked me if 24 or 25k would change my mind? I said not at this time because it was a 2011 with 75k already.
Really shows you how high they mark them up if he was willing to knock off 5k just like that. I had no intention of buying that day anyway, just went to look.

Correct.
They teach this at a Karras seminar.

He forgot...
Walk out, especially after you've spent a couple hours with a salesperson. Walk out even if you like the price. Leave and call another dealership of the same make and tell them "I've been offered x for such and such car with the same trim level, can you beat that?" Always make the number you tell the new dealership less than what the best deal was that you walked out on.

I don't remember the names of the trim levels for the jetta's. We got my wife one in 2012 and paid 24k for the middle level (there were only 3 trim levels). It had sun roof, touch screen, etc, but not navigation and push to start. What helped us was that we were not in any rush and the process took about a week. I was looking for a better trade in price. Each time I talked to them, the price was lower and they offered a little more for my trade. My wife loves the car. We take it on trips over my Tahoe every time. We're averaging 39-40 mpg hwy and city combined.

Hope you enjoy your purchase!

I think I asked you in a different thread but not sure if you saw it. Mind divulging what you paid and how you went about getting the deal that you did?
I'm in the market here soon for a 4x4 supercrew lariat and any advice in the purchase process would be appreciated.
Sorry didn't see. I did research on internet on what others had paid, and figured out what I wanted to pay and then stuck to it. Use the tactics described here. I got 12.5k off MSRP, got an FX2 MSRP was $45k and got for 33.5 and then they gave top dollar for my trade in.
I would suggest you start looking now if you are serious, because the 2013s are going pretty fast limiting you on selection since the 2014s will be out soon.
If in Houston go to LoneStar and ask for Manny. They were really great and didn't play games.

Yea, this is the "middle level" TDI. We were apart by about $3,500 on the trade so I knew they weren't going to get close on that.

As a salesmen, the "Will Cover" is pretty good....but one thing...
Anyway...im at Moss Motors Honda here in Lafayette...anyone need, please email me at JGuidry@mossisboss.com

10. Rebates can be deducted from INVOICE price and not MSRP as the dealership will lead you to believe.

I can only speak from my own experiences and I am telling you I have used manufacturer's rebates against invoice pricing.

WILL...that's interesting. The fact you did that is impressive. Did they push finance on you?
Posted on 9/4/13 at 11:56 am to Golfer
I did the same thing last year when negotiating for my car. It was an exhausting process because they kept trying to jumble together financing and payment numbers to confuse me. I got exactly on the low end of the truecar.com value by sticking to the steps being firm and shopping around.

Think I answered your mortgage post just now.
I like the VW diesels. We are waiting for the 2014 Golf GTD to come out! We currently drive the Cayenne diesel and love it. Great ride, comfortable, and mileage is nice! Enjoy!

Yes, but I never revealed my hand until I absolutely had to. By that time, we were both committed to the deal.
