Nobody is that stupid. Nobody. Has to be a bit.
Tell me how you really feel

As others have said, it is faster to go the Shreveport route, but is dull as hell compared with the drive through Houston and 45, and that's saying a lot.
Also as others have said, if you just stick with I-10 you'll have a very long drive until you get to Phoenix. From there it is a relatively short drive to Los Angeles where it merges onto the Pacific Coast Highway which is awesomer than awesome. You can catch a flight to DFW whenever you decide you want to arrive at your destination.

From Port Allen, been in Dallas 13 years. Fastest hands down...
From LSU, go across the new bridge ( I-10 ), exit to 415 / Port Allen and take 190 to Opelousas. Watch out for speed traps at the two lights in Livonia, coming down the bridge in Krotz Springs and again in Port Barre.
On 49, watch for cops entering and exiting Natchitoches and closing in on Shreveport. Take the Terry Bradshaw throughway over to 20. Once you get close to Dallas, exit US 80 and take it to 30. Head west on 30 until you get to Arlington.

So when you guys say watch out for speed traps to you mean... Don't go over the speed limit at ALL or just dont speed to much?? I usually only go about 4 over at all times and use cruise control
Posted on 8/26/13 at 10:43 pm to Dr. Shultz
As in don't go over the speed limit at all. Especially in Washington right after getting on I-49 from 190. They will get you for going 2mph over, I'm not kidding.

I'm not reading this whole thing but this is the indisputable correct answer
quote:
D. 190 to Opelousas - I-49 to Shreveport - 1-20W to Dallas

I-10 then I-49 N then I-20 W (goes from lafeyette --> shreveport --> dallas)

I have taken 71 from 190 and gone to Bunkie and gotten on 49 from there. About 3 people use that highway now so you can go about as fast as you want.
b.s. I've gotten tickets on 71.
I agree 190 to i49 to i20.
you will get a speeding ticket near Washington if 5mph over! otherwise 80-84mph most of the way.
also slow down driving thru alec.

Only answer, 30-45 mins faster than 10/49/20
Posted on 8/26/13 at 11:18 pm to Dr. Shultz
Go through 1-90 to I-49N then I-20W. It'll be roughly 3.5 hours from Baton Rouge to Shreveport and 3.5 hours from Shreveport to Dallas.

I met that same trooper...most difficult time I have ever had getting a ticket fixed, too...
me too, got a tkt getting off 190 and 2 miles north on 71. got a tkt just before atch basin on 190.
three years apart.
notice on almost all Louisiana speeding tkts is ability to pay non-insurance points fee .. IF you have been a good driver (you get to self judge.)
P.S. been driving br to alek since '65. i'm now old and retired. the only reason to speed is to get to my grave sooner. I believe this to be one of the most beautiful drives in the world. I get either a gospel station or play spiritual music. this is a gorgeous meditation drive for me.
p.s. like ZEN and the ART OF ARCHERY, I don't meditate to sleep, I meditate to stay in the moment. the drive will be timeless if approached w/ enjoyment and meditation.

If you take 190 better watch that speed trap in Krotz Springs.
I take this trip 5 times a year and always try different ways and the 10 to 49 to 20 is always faster. Except when I use the flux capacitor to warp it negative 30 minutes. Good luck.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

It MAY save 10-15 but that's not significant considering the aggravation you have by starting and stopping at red lights.
lol there's four red lights on 190 from lobdell to opelousas

It amazes me how many people in this thread think I-10 to 49 is faster than taking 190.

Driven to Alexandria 40 times per year for past 2 years.
Tried both ways.
190 > I49 is 20 minutes faster. Plus you NEVER have to stop for a wreck or stalled vehicle like I have done numerous times on I10 Basin.
Most of 190 is 65 mph but drops to 45 for short stretches in 5-6 little towns. IF you pay attention to changes you are ok and will stop only 3-4 times for quick red lights on 190.
Definitely the quicker way to get to Alex (2 hours from south BR).
I49 - mostly 75 mph and can actually run 80 without problems. Boring for long stretches but very little traffic until you get to S'Port, if going through in rush hours. Then I20 is a easy drive to Dallas Metroplex.
Don't want to be going through Dallas at afternoon rush. Really slow getting from Dallas to Arlington.
