It makes no difference to me. I just hope they don't up-convert the 3D now that it won't be shot in it.

I wouldn't mind seeing Star Wars in 3D. I saw TPM 3D re-release and some of those scenes were awesome
BTW, if you bitch when a movie is in 3D, then you need to re-evaluate yourself as a person. Every movie that is released in 3D nowadays is available in 2D. No one is forcing you to see it in 3D. First world problems and shite.

What is 35mm? Is that bad or good.

I think the real gist is that it is film and not digital - ie, TPM.

Good. Since everything is digital now, it is hard to find a lot of 35mm prints of classic movies. It is how I'd prefer to watch pretty much any movie, but times are changing and technology is advancing and I understand that 35mm will be VHS tapes pretty soon.

Digital has a much, much higher quality picture.
35mm is hipster stuff nowadays.

But it will preserve the classic look of Star Wars. Which has always been very much derivative of classic sci fi like Buck Rogers. Shooting it in 35mm (as would any new Indiana Jones material) would be a great call back to its source material.

This was my thought as well.
Do you think it will still allow for the proper amount of lens flare?

Except for the fact that higher end screens tend to be tied up with 3D for money purposes....but yeah, they are all the same.

This is pretty interesting since Lucas was the primary force behind the adoption of digital format.
I am fine with digital but I think it went too far so hopefully this becomes a trend.
I watched The Hobbit in 3d and it completely distracted from the movie.

That documentary Keanu Reeves did called Side by Side had a really good discussion on the subject. If you want to see opinions from cinematographers and directors you should really give it a watch on netflix. Here's a short clip

digital and 35MM both have it's place in movies but I think this is a good move for Star Wars. The originals had a classic feel of a story from a long time ago, hence a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... episode 1-3 lost that feel. There are many reasons for this but his choice does show the direction he is looking at.

Yeah, I watched the last Harry Potter in 3D, and while it was very cool in some parts, I found it taxing and distracting. An overall net negative IMO. Unless you have a good reason to use 3D, you shouldn't, at least not until the technology advances more.

3d films not shot in 3d look like shite. I like Avatar style 3d not the converted crap.

Agree. I honestly cannot stand 3D. You hit it on the nail. It's simply distracting. I wish this trend would end and go away.

I'm happy about this. ensures the sequels won't look like video games which was the worst part about the prequels
Posted on 8/23/13 at 1:01 pm to Tiger Ryno
I think the prequels on BluRay look even worse.
It's amazing what VHS and even DVD could mask.
HD has not been kind to the aging process of a lot of movies.
