True dat. LSU vs. Collie dogs will probably get the highest ratings on Thanksgiving Day
not night.
As to your second point. Yes I know that the NFL has high rating on Turkey Night. Nothing Else is on worth a frick. Hypothetically speaking if LSU/ATm were both ranked in top 5 and playing at night. THere would be some serious competition for prime time numbers. NFL would still top em but I think you might be surprised at the # of views that game would get. It is easy to get ratings when the other best thing on is dancing with B list reality show bullshite or whatever is programmed for that slot.

You care far too little about being screwed by the SEC and know far too much about the Iron Bowl scheduling for my liking.
Anyone who likes this must never go to away games. Was unable to go to TAMU this past year and looks not doable for the foreseeable future. Thanksgiving day game oos sucks.

This 1000x!
Start a new tradtion and have Thanksgiving dinner on campus at your tailgate and then attend the game against A + M at Night.
Friday Night is acceptable too.
Anything but that 230 Friday after Thanksgiving BS on CBS which I refuse to attend.
Other people in this thread: "This sounds like a good opportunity for me to sound bitter and obsessed with Alabama."
You > them

t was played the week before Thanksgiving through 2004, and then the SEC ordered them to play the week after Thanksgiving, and the game was rescheduled accordingly from 2005 to the present. Yes, that means that the SEC ordered Bama to do something that Bama did not want to do
Alabama and Auburn did not play after 1907 until 1948. From 1948 until 1992 the game was played no earlier than 11/26, which I'm going to guess was Thanksgiving weekend. From 93-06 it was played the weekend before. So unless you have a link that shows that Alabama did not want to move the game but was forced to by the SEC, it looks an awful lot like the game was moved BACK to its traditional date, which leads me to believe it was a move that if not our right supported by both schools was not opposed by them either.
Auburn-Alabama history
Not EVERY move is automatically something a team opposes, most are things people don't care about. LSU-Auburn has been in early Sept and mid October. No one at LSU cares. Other times LSU is forced to do things we object to. When those things start to pile up with little care shown to LSU's wishes, people tend to think they are getting the shaft.

CBS chose LSU/Arkansas every year and then decided to pick Alabama/Auburn and then went back to LSU/Arky in 2011 when LSU was preseason #1.
If you look at the schedule a lot of times there was not much else for CBS to pick, as you noted, Bama-Au was moved to the week before. Every other year CBS does not have Fla-FSU or UGA-GT. Also the games are announced before the preseason polls come out and LSU started the 2011 season ranked #4. They didn't move to #1 until after the WVU game.

quote:Do you just not remember this? It was 2005. The SEC made a rule that all its schools had to play a game the final weekend of November. This effected Alabama/Auburn and whichever one in the Tennessee/Kentucky/Vanderbilt threesome that was the odd man out in the final weekend every year (Vanderbilt kind of took to playing Wake Forest that last weekend soon after).
So unless you have a link that shows that Alabama did not want to move the game but was forced to by the SEC, it looks an awful lot like the game was moved BACK to its traditional date, which leads me to believe it was a move that if not our right supported by both schools was not opposed by them either.
This is in the first section of the Iron Bowl's wiki page:
quote:I thought it was 2005, but it was 2007 apparently.
In 1993 both schools agreed to move the game up to the week before Thanksgiving to give themselves a bye for a potential SEC Championship Game berth, but in 2007 the conference voted to disallow any team from having a bye before the league championship game, returning the game to its traditional Thanksgiving weekend spot.

The presence of the NFL on a broadcast network makes it almost impossible for LSU or any college to outdraw what they would get on Friday against very little competition. LSU-Arky in a basically meaningless game got a 4.something last year. I can't find the link, but I think that's about what UT-A&M got when UT was going for a NC and the NFL game was on the NFLN.
You posted a link earlier in the thread that said the LSU-Arkansas game was a 2.8 last year which was the same as Iowa-Nebraska. Also that day Washington-Washington State was 1.2 and West Virginia-Iowa State was a 1.9.
It isn't a stretch to think a better college draw could draw similar numbers on Thanksgiving night when there are no other college games. I don't think you can just assume the number of college viewers is static on that night.

quote:Right. Usually CBS had LSU/Ark, OM/MSU, and a UT/UK/VU game to choose from. LSU/Ark was always the best choice. Even when the Iron Bowl got into the mix, there was more preseason hype for LSU & Arkansas combined than for Alabama and Auburn combined, and then Alabama was a defending national champion in 2009, so CBS picked up the Iron Bowl. In 2011, LSU and Arkansas were both really good, and Auburn sucked. CBS picked LSU/Ark for good reason. It had nothing to do with Saban.

LSU-Bama in 2011 got an 11.xx rating, that was the highest rated CFB game in like 20 years. #2 Bama-#3UGA with a NCG on the line last year got in the high 9's. Neither of those were against the NFL. Yes a top 5 matchup would do better than last year's Texas-TCU 1.1, but it would also do much better on Friday or Saturday.

The NFL gets those ratings every week.

I remember it fine, how does that prove that Alabama was opposed to this? So the game was moved. No one is arguing LSU should not have a game that weekend, just not on a freaking National Holiday, which is only being discussed because the other team wants it, not because TV is asking for it.

So for a decade and a half basically they gave themselves a bye before the SEC CG and it was finally stopped, oh the horror, Alabama has been screwed an unfair advantage they had carved out for themselves was taken away! Stop the presses
Did you miss that in 2010 several of Bama's opponents had bye weeks before playing them and they complained because they said it wasn't fair (legitimate beef). It did not take 15 years for that to be corrected. See how that works?
ETA: I don't care that LSU-Ark was moved back to Friday, I just find it funny/ironic that Saban complained about playing Black Friday at LSU and was told to pound sand. He complains about it at Bama and the game gets moved Probably not because of his preference, but the irony is too good.

quote:I'm not sure how you don't get this. Obviously Alabama and Auburn would rather play a week earlier because they would get a bye before the SECCG. The fact that they had to be ordered by a vote of the other 10 schools to play a week later proves that they were opposed to playing a week later. Just because they didn't put up a fight doesn't mean that they weren't opposed to it.
how does that prove that Alabama was opposed to this?
quote:I only brought up the Iron Bowl thing because there's this crazy idea that Bama always gets their way and LSU never gets their way and that this is because the SEC has it out for LSU, and this is, of course, not the case since Bama was forced by the SEC to alter their schedule beginning in 2007.
No one is arguing LSU should not have a game that weekend, just not on a freaking National Holiday, which is only being discussed because the other team wants it, not because TV is asking for it.
quote:No, I remember that quite well, and that's part of why I'm not really whining about the schedule this year. It is true that a lot of schools target the Bama game and try to weave their bye weeks around that game, so I have no problem with Bama getting a break with the schedule in a given year, whether or not that has anything to do with it.
Did you miss that in 2010 several of Bama's opponents had bye weeks before playing them and they complained because they said it wasn't fair (legitimate beef).
quote:Was it "corrected?"
It did not take 15 years for that to be corrected. See how that works?
quote:Definitely ironic. And what most LSU fans don't realize is that this actually indicates that the LSU/Arkansas rivalry has been a lot better than they give it credit for--so good that more often than not, it's a better game than the Iron Bowl. THAT'S why CBS showcases it nationally on Black Friday so often.
I don't care that LSU-Ark was moved back to Friday, I just find it funny/ironic that Saban complained about playing Black Friday at LSU and was told to pound sand. He complains about it at Bama and the game gets moved Probably not because of his preference, but the irony is too good.

Frankly, the only part of this that concerns me is we have a much shorter week to get ready for a quality opponent that runs a different type of offense.
Hope the SEC doesn't schedule Arkansas or another tough team the week before. Hope we're able to schedule Georgia Southern or whoever, just like Bama has every year the week before the Auburn game.
