Because they are idiots and don't know anything about TV ratings. The NFL routinely whips everything's arse in ratings. People can mock Dallas and Romo all they want, but Dallas will slaughter LSU, Alabama, Notre Dame, everyone in CFB in the ratings

You missed my point.

LSU/A&M won't go up against the Cowboys or the Lions. Those games don't come on in prime time.

Correct. The game opposite LSU/A&M will be the NFL Network prime time game.

I understand your point and of course you are right as far as Thanksgiving goes, that's why I posted the 2nd link with the NE-NYJ ratings from last year a blow out that still did better than pretty much every college game.

The night game used to be on the NFLN, now its on NBC. This year its Pitt-Balt, that will clobber every CFB game.

Nope, it will be opposite the NFL on NBC.

And next year it will be something similar.

Casual fans will not watch the college games. Even big college football fans will lean towards the NFL that night because they're going to stack the deck.

Nobody is saying an LSU game would outdraw the NFL game. The question is would it outdraw what LSU would normally get on Friday afternoon and whether LSU would outdraw what the normal Thanksgiving matchup is.

Pitt-Balt is going to suck this year. Pitt. Got rid of damn near all their good players, and Polamalou is getting old. Baltimore lost 2 of it's best assets in Reed and Lewis. I guess I will have to take the wait and see approach to that game. Either way I will be watching the LSU game and Piss drunk for whatever comes on later.

Ah yes, I remember now.

The SEC moved the Iron Bowl to a week later. Lsu isn't the only school that has to budge.

Exactly. The competing NFL game will feature rotating opponents and will be on the NFL Network.

True dat. LSU vs. Collie dogs will probably get the highest ratings on Thanksgiving Day

Man, you really don't know what you are talking about.

have you wathced the past 5 years of the NFL on Thanksgiving? Boooooring!!!! The last full NFL game I watched on Thanksgiving was Cowgirls/Saints. The rest just suck

Good for you, you however are not the standard, NFL ratings destroy CFB. The 2011 LSU-Ark game a 1 v 3 matchup drew a 6.1. Last year's NE beat down of the Jets was in the 8's overall and never got below 7. The Cowboys-Redskins last year had 7m more viewers than the 2011 LSU-Bama prime time night game.

So the Iron Bowl is the same weekend as the SEC championship now?

The Iron Bowl was moved to Friday for a couple of years, but moved back to Saturday in 2010 or 11. It has not been on Thanksgiving Night as far as I know ever, but certainly not in the last 5 years or so since the NFL starting playing a 3rd Thanksgiving game, so it moving from Friday back to Saturday had nothing to do with the NFL, quit flaming and being a dick,

Traditionally the week before thanksgiving. Then the SEC made them move it to a week later so they wouldn't have a week rest if they went to the SECCG and played the likes of UGA or UF, both of whom have tough OOC games the Saturday before Atlanta.

It was played the week before Thanksgiving through 2004, and then the SEC ordered them to play the week after Thanksgiving, and the game was rescheduled accordingly from 2005 to the present. Yes, that means that the SEC ordered Bama to do something that Bama did not want to do!

The presence of the NFL on a broadcast network makes it almost impossible for LSU or any college to outdraw what they would get on Friday against very little competition. LSU-Arky in a basically meaningless game got a 4.something last year. I can't find the link, but I think that's about what UT-A&M got when UT was going for a NC and the NFL game was on the NFLN. Last year and this they are putting high profile teams in that slot, I would expect that to remain the same going forward.

The Iron Bowl was moved to Friday afternoon in 2009 and 2010 but Saban didn't like it so they moved it back to Saturday.

This 1000x!

Start a new tradtion and have Thanksgiving dinner on campus at your tailgate and then attend the game against A + M at Night.

Friday Night is acceptable too.

Anything but that 230 Friday after Thanksgiving BS on CBS which I refuse to attend.

Why do people make stuff up like this? Saban doesn't work for CBS. CBS chose LSU/Arkansas every year and then decided to pick Alabama/Auburn and then went back to LSU/Arky in 2011 when LSU was preseason #1.
