re: Offense Ahead of Defense Overall? What Does It Mean?

The few times the defenders "cheated" and shed the block what happened? The offensive player was on the ground. What happens in games? The defenders shed blocks. A 270 lb copeland is going to beat a 210 lb freshman linebacker straight up. Every single offensive lineman is bigger than our biggest defensive lineman, dillon Gorton weighs 280.. I would be extremely upset if our defense was winning these battles without having to shed the offensive players. Not saying the offensive guys didn't look great, just saying it doesn't mean our defense is suspect. We'll see what happens in the scrimmages

In the Old Days this Drill was called "The Boards" because there were boards on the ground that you could not step on and had to keep your feet spread out. This Drill was designed to teach Offensive Lineman how to block. One Lineman would block and another would hold a Blocking Dummy. I was a Fullback and did not participate but we used to watch and it would get pretty intense!!

If Hilliard is "motivated" this year (dont know why he wouldn't be any other year, but ok), and we've got Hill and Blue ready to rock, then the Tiger running game will be devastating this year.

It means we have a bunch of beasts on th oline, which means we are gonna score lotsa points!

Maybe it was the Big Cat Drill and it means nothing?

Wrong! Can the offensive line guys do everything they would do in a game in this drill? The answer is YES. The Defensive Line can't!
Yeah but we are use to seeing the defensive side blast the other side(except for La'el and Collins), this is very encouraging to see that they've at least gotten strong if nothing else.

I know this doesnt mean much but our defense IS set up for speed and not really strength. Its just Chavis' defensive philosophy. You would see defensive guys winning the battles a tiny bit more if we recruited playere for a 3-4 type defense.

We are going to the ship. If we have a la'el and a Collins both on our line this year!

The defense should always be ahead of the offense. The last time the offense was better than the D this early 2008 happened.

2008 will not happen again as long as we have Chavis

Big cat drill don't mean shite. U'l are making too much of this. We will be fine if we can get about 3 games under our belt we will have a great season even with our schedule.

good grief, it's a one-on-one drill just to get the team fired up. Can't tell a thing from an overall team perspective from it.

People are confusing football with sumo wrestling here.

big cat isnt an indicator of anything. Les started it to ramp up intensity. It means nothing.

I remember doing this drill.

Doesn't mean much. The defense isn't allowed to shed their blocker. The drill is set up in the offenses favor!
EXACTLY!

What does it mean?
It means you got to see many of the new guys and not a lot of the veterans if you go back and look at the video. I would not look too much into it right now. Chavis is building this defense on speed in the LB's and DB's
On a side note did you all see Kendall Beckwith? He has bulked up. Roster shows him at 6'3" 246 lbs. Hope that is not baby fat. That is looking like MLB...
