I don't see the problem with people picking Davis.
Point guards don't win in this NBA.

as of right now we've seen what a top PG in CP3 can do for us, not very far in regards to playoffs. Yes there are some circumstances such as a bad coach, front office, etc. which may have not gotten him as far as we wanted, but up to now what we KNOW is he's a great PG that can't go far - look at the clippers too.
As for AD, we don't KNOW what can happen. we have a better front office, arguably a better coach, and a better potential all-around team on paper thus far.
Hard pick, I'll go with unpredictable AD just because we've seen what CP3 can do. AD might be able to do more. he may not, we may never know, but its worth a gamble.

Easily Chris Paul.
We have no idea where Anthony Davis will be at in his prime.

But why would you take Chris Paul? He's never been on a team that's done anything substantial.
Knowing that, I'll take Anthony Davis. I'm sure he'll make it to the second round of the playoffs at some point.

You can't teach height and length. With Davis athleticism, potential, and defense. I'd go with him

So awesome/hilarious that literally every single person in this thread picked Davis

Paul hasn't done crap in his career. Hell Carmelo has gone farther in the playoffs.

Yep. Tough to win big in this league when your best player, by a WIDE margin, is 6 feet tall.
The RINGZ argument is silly to me though. How far did Kobe get with a roster comparable to any of Paul's? LeBron is a basketball prototype and the best player since Jordan. He didnt win shite in a weak conference until going to Miami. Doesn't mean I rate either guy less.
Takes the right talent, coaching, organization to be in the title mix. And then you need a hell of a lot of luck to pull one out.

Cracks me up too. According to this board, Simmons et al are dumb for critizing the Holiday trade. Proven talent >>>>> potential. Here its potential >>>>> proven talent. And I love it. People are on board for this team and will defend our guys.
I do think we sometimes forget how spectacular pre injury Paul was though. Those 07-09 seasons were must watch every night for him alone.
I will never forget Paul v the Bulls at home in 07-08. He went supernova and single handedly pulled out a comeback W. Just unreal.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It is almost the same situation (Paul vs Davis, Holiday vs Noel). Paul is an all pro though. You're not supposed to let those go..

1. I doubt Chris Paul ever makes the playoffs playing with nothing but D-Leaguers and end of the bench guys.
2. LeBron never won shite playing in Cleveland? News to me.

We already know that Chris Paul is one of the greatest PGs in the history of the game.
Even though I THINK AD will become an all-time great, I don't know that.
Begrudgingly, I have to go Paul in this very precise scenario. Although obviously, I wouldn't trade Paul for AD now.

That 2007-2008 roster was still better than any roster that Kobe had that didn't have Shaq or Gasol. There was no excuse IMO to not do any better than the 2nd round. When Paul said "Thank God we're at home" in that press conference after Game 6 of that series, I was worried though about the mentality that they were going to have going into Game 7. Much of that Game 7 was tough to watch.

Sorry right now it has to be CP3. I think Davis will be a stud but people are vastly overstating the talent around Paul during his prime in NOLA. He had one very good player (West), one good player (Tyson), one over-the-hill player (Peja), and crap.
Acting like he failed to bring a great roster past the second round is ignorant as all ****.
It's sad really, because I think Dell building a roster around CP3 in his prime could have potentially brought a ship to NOLA.

So....having one additional all-star, a quality center, and some good shooters, is not considered a great roster to you?

Kobe's rosters from 05-07 were on par with Paul's Hornets rosters. Yes Smush Parker played a ton of minutes for those teams and he was terrible. But you do realize in 08-09, Rasual Butler played the third most minutes for the Hornets. In 10-11 it was Marco Belinelli. Paul had one year with guys playing to their potential. He got 56 wins, destroyed the Mavs in round 1, and bounced in 7 by the Spurs in the 2nd round. Oh, the horror.
People seem to have hazy memories regarding the 07-08 team. No one expected them to be that good. It wasn't some juggernaut- if anything it was a fluke year. The team relied on 3 things: Paul having an all time season, Peja and Chandler shockingly staying healthy, and West maxing out. The rest was smoke and mirrors, as evidenced by their slide into mediocrity after that season.

From 05-10, Cleveland got out of the second round in the East twice. They went to the Finals once during one of the weakest years the East has seen (53 wins for the 1 seed, 47 and 44 won the other two divisions- the Cavs had 50 wins). Switch conferences for Cleveland and New Orleans and you don't think Paul goes farther in the playoffs?
If we're talking taking a guy in a vacuum, Paul is the clear winner here. If you want to argue that the nature of Paul's game- demanding the ball and control of the offense-, how damn good he is and his height limitations means that building a team around him is ultimately doomed, I think that is a very interesting discussion.

Where is the additional All-Star on those rosters?

Lamar Odom was a very good player back then. Arguably better than West, All-Star appearances or not.
If you want to judge a player's quality by an arbitrary award, I can't stop you. Though I do think McGrady and Yao are still receiving All-Star votes

Hell even luke walton was decent enough for the lakers at one point
Kobe's supporting cast back then wasnt great but its not as bad as some make it out to be.
