Bc of way the tails look, rats. Also, wouldn't baby squirrels be in a tree? Not the garden?

Baby squirrels that fell out of the nest. They are born hairless like most rodents.
Raised some when I was a kid. They will begin to look more like squirrels soon.

I can't tell from your pic, but do they have white around their eyes? If so, they're probably baby squirrels:

Baby rats don't seem to have that:

And just because I think it's so ugly it's cute, I'll throw in a picture of a baby aardvark I found:

These won't....... Because they're rats.

Baby squirrels do look very similar to rats. But, unless this is just a terrible photo, they're rats. There's no light coloring around the eyes. Base of the tail is thin. Clear nails. Shorter toes. No hint of longer tail hair. Hair looks all brown, no gray. And if that glass is patterned like most of that stuff, they're pretty small.

On top of this, what are the odds that 4 of them fell out of a nest into his garden without there being a fallen hollow branch, or squirrel nest laying there?

They look like rats. I've raised a hell of a lot of baby squirrels and they don't look like squirrels. No hair on their tails for one. By that point a squirrel will already have hair on their tails. That and the color isn't right.
