Best jigheads for trout?

I went to Puglias yesterday to get some matrix shad and the variety of jigheads they have is overwhelming. Tons of different head shapes and colors. Should I just stick with the grey lead ones or do painted ones really make a difference?

The available options are truly staggering.
Im also interested in size, hook color, head shape, line tie orientation.

My go to was 1/4 oz white jig head with pink eyes. H&H stopped making them with pink, only orange now

Good question. I use plain red 1/4 oz or plain lead 1/4 oz. not sure there is a correct anwer on this one.

Sometimes I like the chartruce painted heads, but I've noticed that when the trout are on a roll and the paint wears off, they bite anyway. I doubt it really matters.
The most important thing is to use heavy ones in deep moving water like the Rigolets and use lighter ones when they feed shallower or there is less water movement.
Also, long shanks work better.

I only buy lead color in 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 sizes. You will not find a colored jig head in my box. I simply do not see the head color making a difference, unless of course it is a rock port rattler, in which case you have the baddest hook out there.

Rockport rattlers or stay home.
I find red catches more hardheads. I use plain head with black nickel hook. I will dip them in chartreuse paint ever now and then when bored at home.

I've always used the flurescent orange with black eye. I have white, red, black, unpainted, pink, yellow in at least 1/4 & 3/8 weights.......
With that said, I either tie on my orange with red dot eye or unpainted

Plain head and nickel finish ftw....
The only fancy thing I make sure my jigheads ha e is the little barb near the head that keeps the bait from sliding.

Always used just the plain lead head..... never had a problem, although i have some buddies who have done the same thing and they said that rockport rattler deal is good.
I picked up some jigheads at superior tackle that were nice, its the type they make and sell in bulk. Used over the 4th for about 5 days and really liked them. Made well

plain lead here, however one time we saw this guy murdering them on a pink head. dude was just lucky i thought. well i bought some for the next trip when we went back, to Port Sulphur. sure enough we weren't getting bites, switched to the pink. immediately it was on.
so like some areas that the body color can make a diff., so can lead heads. at least for that area, which is now covered up by a restoration project.

Goldeneye
Expensive but worth the money. You won't miss fish with them.
I'm not so sure color matters that much.

Yellow mouth jig heads are hands down the best. Might be hard to find in SELA, but they're in most tackle stores around BL

I just buy the normal 1/4 lead head ones by the 100 pack from Professional.
