Well Florida and Georgia are LSU and Auburn's permanents so that sounds about right.

helps when you have an Alabama alumnus picking everyone's schedule.... yet somehow this is allowed
This is the point right here. Amazing that a guy from Tuscaloosa who played high school football in Tuscaloosa and the went to Alabama is the guy when it comes to scheduling. The facts are that Alabama has the easiest schedule they can possibly have and LSU will have one of the toughest schedules in the country. In the East South Carolina has a schedule that does not include Alabama, LSU or TAM.

The inequity of the cross rival is the whole point. Of course he is using that.
While the inequity of the permanent cross division team has some validity I can also understand the other side of things that it is cyclical.
To me the thing that stinks to high heaven Of pro Bama favoritism at the least And I'm out right conspiracy at the worst Is that Bama had Georgia taken off its schedule last year and this year and replaced with Missouri and Kentucky, Where as LSU lost Kentucky last year and had South Carolina added and then will have to play Georgia this year.
Even if the computer truly spit that out, At some point a human being with the oversight should have said wait a minute this is unfair. That human being Mark Womack was either too stupid To realize that or too much of a Bama fan to do anything about it.
The fact that this change was made knowing the relative strengths of the teams Is completely unethical.
Gump fans do not have the integrity to admit this, Nor does their midget leader.

quote:Your point? The way it sits right now, the West division has had LSU, Bama, Arkansas, Auburn, and Texas A&M all finish in the top 10 at some point within the last few years. MS St is not a pushover, and Ole Miss is on the rise and had some decent seasons themselves. There would be more balance than it seems.
Yeah that seems balanced. LSU and A&M vs Bama, Florida, UGA, SC, Auburn

It just dawned on me, but why don't they consider making it completely fair by only counting your 6 division games towards winning your division, and not counting your record vs cross division opponents at all? This would allow for all cross divisional teams to play every year and not have to worry about any power of schedule conflicts. Just as out of conference games don't count against you winning your conference, out of division games would not have any effect on you winning your division.
What would everyone think of that? Agree/Disagree?
Under the preceding scenario, LSU, Alabama, and Texas A&M would have finished in a 3 way tie, and nobody would be complaining about whom who had to play from the East!
Then again, that is just too simple for anyone from Birmingham to figure out.

Disagree for the most part. You could have one or both teams in the SECCG that have worse overall records than other teams. This hurts the league from a national championship perspective.
In reality the problem of the permanent opponent wasn't exposed until the league went to 2 cross-division games vs. 3. The schedule was somewhat protected when it was 3 because the likelihood that all 3 were down was low.
If the league wants to stay at 8 conference games, the solution is simple. Do away with permanent opponents. If the rivalry is that important, play those games as out-of-conference during the years that game isn't on the conference schedule.
As far as this year's schedule is concerned, I certainly hope it's ridiculed non-stop on the networks. Pryor, Carlin, Hedberg and Murphy combined couldn't come up with a joke as big as this one.

Saban wants 9.
It is written, he hath spoken.
And, I'm good with that. But this conference can forever kiss my arse from here on out.
Common opponents aside, there is no amount of correction that can be made to compensate for the past, present, and future bridge schedules.
They don't even try to hide it.

Ahh yes, I can see it now:
9 Game Conference Schedule,
LSU: 6 West Opponents, plus UF, UGA or USCe (at least two of these or all three)
Bama: 6 West Opponents, plus UT, KY and Mizz (at least two of these or all three)
Yup. That looks about right.

What is funny to me is that the SEC has a rule in place (called the alma mater rule) which prohibits referees from officiating a game involving their alma mater. In effect, the SEC admits that the possibility of bias exists. Yet, when it comes to schedules, which have a huge impact on a teams title chances each year, an Alabama alum and Tuscaloosa native was allowed to oversee the process and rubber stamp schedules that seriously favor his alma mater and hurt their chief competition.
Alabama fans can say what they want, but the people of Louisiana know a thing or two about corruption (Huey P, Edwin Edwards, et al), and sometimes you just have to call a spade a spade.

Was it ever confirmed as fact that he Bama alum actually made or approved the schedule? I only ask bc I've seen no mention of it anywhere except the Rant. We've seen outside media discuss the lopsided schedule but I don't think anyone mentioned the Bama alum.

He is the top ranking official when it comes to SEC scheduling.

Laman is right that they should just shift the Alabama teams East. Unless, of course, the SEC expands east. In that case, just count your intra-division games since you'll only be playing them anyway.

Want to take a guess where the Head of Officials for the SEC graduated from?

I can't believe people are still griping about schedules. In 2 or 3 years when lsu hasn't played Georgia or USCe in 2 years, I guarantee you the Alabama fans won't be complaining.

Common opponents on a 8 game schedule with 14 teams is just plain dumb. It is time to get rid of it and wake up. Going to a 9 game schedule is fine but, really it is just time to get rid of a common opponent.

So dumb. UF > UT in the 90s. There was also no BCS for most of the 90s too
