Best First Person Shooter: BLOPS 1 and BF3 tie for me on multiplayer but Borderlands 2 wins for a FPS story and pure fun.
MW2 wins for most fun multiplayer FPS
BF3 on console was fun until I played it on PC. No comparison so the console version lost some of its luster.
Best Third Person Shooter: Gears of War. All of them.
Best Open World Role Playing Game: Fallout: New Vegas and Assassins Creed II are a tie for me.
Fallout had some amazing DLC though.
Best Sports Game: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12
Best Racing Game: For pure fun Need for Speed
For a technical aspect Forza or Gran Turismo - tie
Best Playstation 3 Exclusive: Heavy Rain
Best Xbox 360 Exclusive:
1. Gears of War
2. Halo
3. Minecraft
4. Left 4 Dead
5. Trials HD
Biggest Overall Bust of This Generation: God of War: Ascension.
I liked and still play Homefront
Best Overall Console Game of This Generation: Hard to pick. Borderlands, Dead Island, Fallout, CoD have all given me hours of entertainment but Assassins Creed II had me immersed like no other and is one of the only games I got 100% completion on.
Best Indie Game: Minecraft

Best FPS: Halo 3- Really my first console game I really got into online. Bought with my xbox and meet a bunch of cool people and stuff. Kinda miss the days when I would hop on anytime and find people to play custom games with.
Best TPS: Heh. This is kinda tough. I'm going to assume that this doesn't just include shooters. If so then I would say a tie between The Last of US and Prototype 2. The Last of Us just came out so it still has that new game feel and that might be why I'm including it. But prototype 2 was just fricking awesome. A shame the studio who made it got closed down.
Best Open World Game: Fallout 3- The capital wasteland was quite an experience
Best Sports Game- NBA 2k12. Not a big fan of baseball, and even though I thought NCAA 12 was pretty good I really loved 2k. I also haven't played any 2013 sports games so I'm sure everyone elses answer is different
Best Racing Game: shite I don't know Mario Kart? Not much of a racing guy lol
Best PS3 Exclusive: The Last of Us. PS3 has some damn good exclusives but like I said earlier TLoU has that new game feel.
Best Xbox 360 Exclusive: Halo 3
Biggest Overall Bust of this Generation: This is kinda hard. I thought The WarZ situation was hilarious so I guess that one.
Best Overall Console Game of this Generation: Fallout 3- the game was just awesome. I wish I could erase all my memories of it and replay it. It was incredible running through the wasteland not knowing wtf to do.
Best Indie Game: This one is really hard. It's either The Binding of Isaac, Tiny & Big, or Minecraft

Paragraphs. How do they work?
Posted on 7/8/13 at 10:41 am to The Sad Banana
Best First Person Shooter: Battlefield 3
Best Third Person Shooter: Gears of War. Only really played the first one, and not a big fan of the genre, but the success of these games speak for themselves. FTR, putting TLoU in this category is a slap in the face of that game. I don't consider it a shooter, but JMO.
Best Open World Role Playing Game: Skyrim or Fallout 3. Never got in to GTA. I know RDR gets a lot of love here, but I'm not going to vote for something I've never really played.
Best Sports Game: don't play sports games.
Best Racing Game: Burnout Paradise. I hate that this game kind of got swept under the rug. It's an arcade racer, but it's done so well and the open world aspect of it gets you lost for hours, looking for jumps or signs to crash through. The fact that you can take any route you want to in a race, as long as you get from point A to point B, took some getting used to, but it gives life to a somewhat boring genre to me.
Best Playstation 3 Exclusive: The Last of Us. I don't think many will argue when the PS3's life cycle is over that this game was tops.
Best Xbox 360 Exclusive: Gears of War, with Halo 3 coming in a close second.
Biggest Overall Bust of This Generation: Homefront. Diablo 3 is right up there. Never played it, but from every review I've read and gameplay video I've seen, Duke Nukem should get some consideration.
Best Overall Console Game of This Generation: The Last of Us.
Best Indie Game: Minecraft
I'll add one.
Best Co-op Game: Borderlands 2. This series is Diablo with humor and guns. Everyone needs to find a friend and try this game out. Seriously. It's way beyond good.

Even though I wanted to put COD4 on there, as fun and as innovative as it was, I compare that mess of noise to the simple and pure experience that is BF3 and it's hard to let sentiment get in the way of facts: BF rules over COD, no matter which one. Again, that's preference and I know there's times where chaos reigns, but they did it right with BF3. Hopefully they don't screw the series up. The FPS market needs COD and BF games, and from my experience with Halo 4, it's pretty darn hard to keep COD influences out of your game when you know how popular they are now. Make your game the way you want to make it. Gamers need both styles.

Fallout and MGS4 are making me rethink some choices.
I have a hard time remember games that I played a long time ago.

You could have a thread for each category honestly. There is so much to discuss there and I haven't even played half of these games. I did just purchase Last of us on ebay so that will be here in a few days.

I would have put that for my PS3 exclusive, but the confusing story keeps it from the upper echelon IMO.

Glad to see some love for ACII. That game gets shadowed by the other boring AC games.

I feel like CoD4 was the very best for a long time. Until BF3 came along and did everything better. No killstreaks, you get vehicles right off the bat. No perks, just "specializations" that don't make you an overpowered troll. Weapons customization. Destructible (somewhat, even though BFBC2 did it better in Frostbite 1.5) environments. And the one thing that makes it so much better is the DLC. They extended the life of the game and really gave it a wide footprint in gameplay styles that make it a bunch of FPS games in one. It's spectacular.

ACII was the best of the series by far but Brotherhood wasn't that far behind IMO
