$275 a month is not that bad, if it includes everything.
Just for comparison, at Oakbourne in Lafayette, these are the fees for a Junior member (age 35 or younger):
$165/month - member fee
$90/quarter - food & beverage minimum
$30/quarter - range plan
$15/cart rental for 18 holes (as a member, this is the biggest beef I have with OB)
Also, guest green fee is $75. What will be the guest fee at The Oaks?

Financially I just don't see it making sense. 2.7 mil for that course seems crazy. First thing I would do is try and talk the bank down from that number. I am sure they will settle just to get it off their hands.
I inquired about being a member at CCL several yrs ago and if I remember correctly a stock holder member initiation was around 10k. Just trying to make the comparison that the oaks at 6k seems like a reach.

You make good points. The land was appraised in 2011 for 3.2 million. We definitely will be negotiating with the bank to pay less than 2.7.
Regarding CCL, the fee to join today is 25k and 550 per month. Definitely a different ball park.

Green fees haven't been decided yet but i imagine a guest fee in the $65 range. What we don't want is the same guest playing the course over and over. We want that guy as a partner with us.

B, I hope it works out for those willing but with more and more people moving away from that side of town it's going to be an up hill battle. About 15 yrs ago it was a great club.

Well that's a crappy attitude, when's the last time you played the course? It's still a great course, better than most Baton Rouge courses anyway

Without question an uphill battle. But I'm willing to do what I can to make it happen. I don't see the area surrounding as a huge obstacle. There are enough golfers within 15 miles that could benefit.
Now, if this doesn't make it....the area is done. I don't live in the area, but i would hate to see it for those good people that do.

It's been several yrs since playing SFCC. Like I have said my family were members in the late 90s, very early 2000s. As I have been exposed to better course around the country SF is not a good course. It is a course crammed into a very small plot. Playing on a course where you could hit it 3 fairways over and still have a play is not normal. This is the same reason I never liked BRCC either.

how many commitments do you have Snatchola? 400 seems like quite a lot. seems like most BR people are used to playing different courses. do you think there will be critcial mass close enough to the course? Seems like that is the real value of being a member somewhere is proximity to the course.

Could they plant some trees to guard fairways?
MSU course is pretty open but they planted a bunch of trees recently that will make the course much much harder in the future.

But that is most courses in Baton Rouge

We have several commitments as is now. There is a segment of the golfing community that prefers to price shop and alternate which course they play. I understand that and respect it. But, that's not who we are targeting. We are looking for a person who sees value in belonging to a private club. Being able to show up on a Tuesday at 1 Not needing a tee time. Not having to worry about tournaments everyday of the week. We are also looking for the person that sees the value in saving an area that will be run down if this doesn't happen.
I can tell you this....I'm on board.

It's definitely an "old" style course. Some prefer the wide open style of course. But, this club had a very solid membership for many years as a private club. We think we can get back to that. Combine that with no debt, and we can do great things.

I agree, BR does not have very many good courses.
