Eta besides citra and Amarillo

My new favorite tropicalish hops are Galaxy and Kohatu.
Galaxy is citrus, with peach/apricot, and passion fruit.
Kohatu is weird in a good way. It has this pinapple / lime / fruit punch thing going on which is really interesting.
Hop Union Aroma Wheel says Falconer’s Flight, Bitter Gold (who the??), and Nelson.

Like LSUGrad said, galaxy goes really well. I would like to do an azacca pale ale. The aroma they gave was wonderful, too bad my IPA turned to shite that i used them in. Among others.
Mosaic is always great.
Making a Motueka pale ale might not be bad either. They smelled very tropical as well.
Try out the New Zealand hops. Their descriptors seem interesting.

That sounds like what I'm looking for. I'm thinking of finally doing the pineapple/mango beer similar to s14's and want hops that complement those

Some of the more popular NZ and AU hops are showing out of stock in a lot of places, but the big hop distributors are just now getting the 2015 crops for the southern hemisphere hops.
So hopefully they should will start showing up online soon.

Do you guys do split batches? I've been wanting to take an ipa, but do a split batch with different hops.
I think the early additions are easy to replicate for 2 batches.
But your late/whirlpool additions would have to go toward the same 5 gallon batch. Meaning, you could only really differentiate the batches (in terms of hopping) with the dry hops. I'll still try it out, as i see it being a fun experiment.
Maybe do my bittering hopping of Warrior or Columbus.
Then my late additions depending on what profile i'm looking for. If i'm going for fruity then maybe galaxy, citra, or cascade. Then split the batches and dry hop with hops i've not used like german hull melon, German Mandarina Bavaria, Motueka, or other New Zealand hops. Just need to pick up a couple more 3 gallon better bottles.

I was thinking about doing that with the Pale ale we're brewing this weekend. Everything the same until the last 15 minutes then transfer half to different kettle and using different flameout hops and dry hops but decided against it this time.

I came to the same decision about an APA I'm brewing next week.
I may split and use different yeasts soon, but I don't think I want to deal with two boils going at the same time.

I've got plenty of burners around the house these days so that's not much of a problem. Just figured I'd keep it simple since I'm using the keg for a boil kettle the first time. Plus I'm pretty sure it was going to max out the Mash tun. Rather get 1 right than 2 half assed at the moment.

I think you can get like 34 lbs of grain plus the necessary water into the 10 gallon mash tun. So assuming you arent making anything in the 7%+ range you should be good with your mash tun.

That seems high. I could see maybe 24 pounds. I did right at 20 pounds and the water for my imperial porter, and figured I may have had room for a couple more pounds and that's it.

Beersmith will let you go up to 25 before giving you the warning
eta- at 1.25 qt/lb; 28.5 @ 1.1 qt/lb

Anyone have any thoughts on that for mash thickness? Not opposed to it but at that point I may be limited by my HLT of 8 gallons.

Hmm, I thought I've gotten more than 25 lbs in. Maybe not though

Trial run on the new equipment.

Finally bottled the ill advised collaboration that Zap and I cooked up - Zombie Dust clone fermented with my house wild strain. It is still a little on the "hot" side but huge hoppy grapefruit going into the bottles today.

Made room to cold crash my table beer. Going to keg it next weekend.

wait, you're allowed to trial run equipment before brew day?
Kids kept me busy this weekend so I wasn't able to transfer over my sours onto fruit until this morning. Should still be ready in plenty of time for Brew At The Zoo.
Was going to try and brew a DIPA this week, but I have a hop order from YVH stuck in BFE Idaho bc of these stupid arse wild fires.
I've been working on an oat APA recipe for a while and may end up brewing it this week instead.
Looking for something like the low abv, low ibu, but high hop flavor beers that Tree House, Trillium, and Tired Hands (among others) have been brewing. This is what I'm thinking
OG: 1.050
IBU: 40
SRM: 5ish
Grain:
44% - Two Row
44% - Pearl Malt
12% - Flaked Oats
Hops:
60m - 30 IBUs Magnum
0m - 0.5 oz Amarillo
0m - 0.5 oz Centennial
0m - 0.5 oz Mosaic
180 - 1.0 oz Amarillo
180 - 1.0 oz Centennial
180 - 1.0 oz Mosaic
DH5 - 2.0 oz Amarillo
DH5 - 2.0 oz Centennial
DH5 - 2.0 oz Mosaic
Yeast:
Vermont IPA or something like that
Mash:
Low (150??)

never used Pearl, but these
are exactly the kind of beers that I am into right now.

Pearl
It a pale ale malt that is somewhere around 3 SRM. It's kind of bready flavor and gives the beer a little color without having to add a crystal malt.
I had never used it before brewing a Heady Topper clone, but I really liked how it turned out in that beer.
Occasionally I'll put together a recipe and realize it has an SRM of 2. To get that nice gold/orange color I want I'll blend in one of these 3-5 SRM base malts and it makes me feel a little better without turning to a crystal malt.
