Maybe now La Tech won't hold out for a better bowl offer.

He was initially offered to be president of the university, but he was waiting on an offer to be chancellor of LSU.

He definitely presided over the Fiasco Bowl, but he also hired Sonny Dykes & facilitated our move into USA.

Not really a move up IMO.

I believe this is a good day for Tech. Not saying he's the worst but there is potential there and Tech needs someone better. I hope this is a good hire.

It's not Van De Velde's fault LaTech didn't go to a bowl. It was the elitist boosters and fanbase that pressured him into passing up a guarantee for a could-be.

Yeah Id say USA moved down to tech, much more than tech moved up to it.

A couple of weeks before the whole fiasco, it was pretty much understood that all the Indy Bowl sponsors weren't interested in Tech either. Hotels, casinos and restaurants want a team whose fanbase will come for 2 or 3 days, not for one night.

From what I had heard, Tech was holding out hope for the Ft Worth Bowl or the Liberty Bowl.
I'm still surprised that the only invite they got was the Indy bowl. And I'm surprised they even got that. I can't blame them at all for passing it up.

If the new Big East does actually happen (and I'm still not convinced it will), the new CUSA will be nothing more than the Sun Belt. C-USA didn't really have any other options- LA Tech was about the best and most logical addition they could get.
