Grossman was a freshman and split snaps with the bachelor.
Lorenzen was freshman and threw more INTs than TDs.
Carter was dogshit his last year at UGA.
So he was the worst ever 1st team all sec. That is the equivalent of the slowest 100m gold medalist. Still 1st team all sec

Nailed it. However, I was also buzzed during the game, which may explain why our recollections are synchronized.

I thought most fans wanted Ro over Josh.

Wrong! Fans wanted Booty. Booty stood up in church to announce about playing football at LSU. He was a Louisiana legend. One of our own. Also, a backup would always do better than the starter. Once yanked during Auburn game, Ro did not get a fair shake even though Booty was equally bad.

Booty was possibly the greatest high school QB ever.

Pretty easy to accomplish with the level of talent around him.

Oh that, and the fact that he never faced a pass rush because he took every snap from what amounted to punt formation.

When no one had ever passed for 10K yards and he threw for 11K+, and missed the last 4 games with a broken hand, I wouldn't say it was pretty easy. He was legit. I wish he would've came straight to LSU and played both sports.

The LSU offense should have used the punt formation , if that's all it takes...

Find Evangel game film from the 90s.

Brock Berlin...Phillip Deas...same thing. Those guys never saw a pass rush because they were taking snaps 15 yard deep from the line. It's how they did it.

I've seen the system at work first hand.
It is not simple or easy.

He only played one real team his entire career. Haynesville. And they beat evangel by like 60 points. Other than that it was basically JV opponents.

Had he scored he would've been remembered as a hero. Thin thin line for many of you.

Yeah, it's not like he did other self serving, arrogant shite....

Que his game losing INT vs UAB....

Everyone has a bad game or lapse in judgement. Booty came in with an attitude of entitlement. He left with Saban's encouragement to go.

Josh was actually higher rated than Peyton Manning coming out of HS.

So interim Head Coach Hal Hunter out of nowhere pulls Rohan off the bench for a start over Booty in 1999 and 2-9 LSU blasts 7-4 Arkansas 35-10 in a game that wasn't as close as the score.

Did Hal Hunter know something we didn't?

There was something mystifying about how talented the 98-99 teams were, yet we couldn't win any games over quality opponents to save our life. I truly think some point shaving may have been going on those years.

Josh Booty was the most over rated player, in any sport, to ever wear purple and gold. For those that remember, he completed his first college pass to his brother Abram, which was planned. I'm sure that rubbed a lot of his teammates wrong.

Being over rated is no reason to dislike someone.
Nor is playing poorly, despite effort.
Being a jerk is....

They beat Neville who went to the Dome 3 out of the first 5 years of 5A at that time.

Where in my post did I say I disliked him ? The perception of him, then and now, is that he was cocky and arrogant. I'm in the majority on that one. Oh, by the way, I disliked him.

When did a Booty evangel team beat Neville?

Perhaps a Deas team, but Josh Booty graduated in 93.

Or shitty coaching. Apparently Dinardo ran his teams into dust. Full contact practices all year, full pad workouts all year. And the worse they struggled, the harder he was on them. Old school bullshite that was fine when there were no schollie limits. But pretty outdate, arcane stuff by modern standards.

I don't know about the team but the crowd in TS was definitely divided. Davey was the better player IMO.

I'll never forget the 2000 Peach Bowl when we were dead to rights against Ga Tech. Down 14-3 at half IIRC and came back to win 28-14. Ro came in at half and played lights out, Josh Reed stepped up, defense was great, and Winey took the cast off his broken hand and was vital. Of course I drink too much and maybe some of that info is a little hazy. :)

I was watching that game with a bunch of ECA alum who were tight with the Bootys. When Rohan finally went in, me and a couple friends started high fiving and going crazy. They didn't like that at all and the rest of the game was really awkward.
