Is basketball the only team sport that fans pick their team based off one guy?

Obviously i know this doesnt apply to all nba fans but I hear a lot of Heat fans say that they aren't really Heat fans, they are Lebron fans and that they have pulled for him and followed him since he was with the Cavs. So basically he could leave for Toronto tomorrow and they would then be huge fans of that team. I'm a huge Saints fan and Brees is my favorite player. However, if he left for the Broncos or whatever team tomorrow I would still be a Saints fan and wouldn't pull for his team. Same thing goes for me with baseball, soccer, etc. is it because there are only 5 players playing at a time or what?

Football. Peyton and Favre have cult followings.

You think a large percent of Green Bay fans became Vikings fans? I'm not sure about that. I used to see Cleveland apparel everywhere but those days are loooong gone since Lebron left.
I mean I guess it's a testament to how great he is.

Yes. I saw multiple Favre GB jerseys at the 09 NFCCG. Made me
ETA I'm not saying GB diehards, but rather GB bandwagoners who loved Favre and followed him in NY and MIN

Yes. Only 5 players, play both offense and defense on a relatively small space with no helmet. Only team sport that lends itself to this phenomenon, really.

Every sport has fans who follow a particular player rather than a team. Peyton and Brett have already been mentioned.
You might also have a fan who's into college sports but not pro, and that fan might root for a player from his college team.

I was a Heat fan before LeBron ever joined the Heat.

I thought I would like cp3 his whole career.
I didn't.
I didn't.

Yep. Anyone who says they are a Heat "fan" is a lying sack of shite. It's no big deal, they should just admit that they are a Lebron fan first and foremost.

Patrick Kane's play in the last Olympics made me a of him, but I really could careless about the blackhawks.

no but people who can't commit to one team is pretty lame in general. Picking to be a fan of a top player and jumping teams with him is just glory hunting for rings. The majority of hoops fans still stick with one team.

There's a bigger cult following out there than those two...
ETA: there are at least two...

Yep. Vick and Tebow are both more cult-like than Manning and Favre.
