Rumor: Bulls/Wiz talking trade: Deng for #3/Okafor?

The first decent NBA Draft trade rumble of the week involves an All-Star who's no stranger to the speculation game.
Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the Chicago Bulls, in their latest attempt to gauge the trade value of All-Star swingman Luol Deng, have had exploratory discussions with Washington about a deal that would land Deng with the Wizards and bring the No. 3 pick in Thursday's draft to the Bulls.
The most likely trade construction, if talks were to progress to the serious stage, would send Deng to the Wizards for the No. 3 pick and center Emeka Okafor, who would have to formally opt into his contract for next season ($14.5 million) this week for the trade to go through.
Yet it's worth noting that Cleveland, sources say, has interest in Deng as well ... and there will surely be other potential trade partners to surface if the Bulls decide they're legitimately ready to part with Deng after years of flirting with the idea.

Sounds like it is simply in the exploratory/talking phase, but just thought I would inform the board.

As a Bulls fan, I don't like it because I just don't love this draft.

Who in this draft excites the Bulls that much?

Have to imagine it would be for Mclemore or Oladipo. Butler played well enough in the playoffs to make Deng expendable.

Bulls proved this offseason they don't need Deng to be successful. If another team values him highly, and they can get another big man in Okafor along with the #3 pick in the draft, why the hell not? Then they just draft porter to replace Deng and you have Jimmy Butler who has proved he can play with the big boys at SF.
ETA: or they just take the best available guy at the SG position and sign a min guy to back up Butler.

I would guess McLemore if he was there at 3

As a Bulls fan, I'm not sure how I feel about this.
I'd like to see the team get one more crack at a title run, hopefully healthy and the last time before they amnesty Boozer next Summer.
Of course, Butler proved that Deng was somewhat expendable, but hes rather suited for the 2 guard IMO.
The other thing is that if the Wizards throw in Okafor, the Bulls get a viable backup for Noah next season.
IMO, don't do the deal. I'd wait for Summer 2014, amnesty Boozer, Deng comes off the books, and land a star in FA.

This wouldn't preclude them from doing that in any way.
Okafor is an expiring as well. The only difference would be the salary of the #3 pick.
I assume they would go Oladipo.

That's taking a big chance, imo.

I'd probably think Oladipo because of his defense and the fact that Thibs is coach.

If that is what it's for, I would imagine they would agree in principle and it would be a Draft day deal to where if McLemore is there, the trade is on

outside of being 6'4, super athletic and black, how is Oladipo a Wade clone?

Chicago may want #3, but this would be an odd way to do it.
Butler is cheaper than Luol Deng, but getting Oak means that the Bulls will have nearly $50m tied up in four big men (Oak, Boozer, Noah, Taj Gibson).
I could see Oak being used as a trade chit, but that $14m contract of his makes it hard for them to get much salary relief in sending him out. The teams with a lot of money open, like Cleveland and Utah, don't really want to spend $14m on a middling big man.

Well, according to some reports, if this trade goes through, Chicago would get the MLE back, and they could resign Nate Robinson or Marco Belenelli, or bring Korver back.
I think this move would set them back for next year, but would brighten the future.
Problem is, there are no guarantees with what Rose will look like in the future.

Is Rose's brother going to let him play next season?
