How exactly was the 80-90s NBA better than current? Talent wise

I'm 23, so I'm not old enough to remember obviously. I'm also not discrediting it. It just seems that all argument seem to end with "he played in the 80s.." Etc.
I know the game was much more brutal and physical.
Is it the typical "old will always be better than new" thinking?

i dont think it was better, different is a better word. along with every other sport, they evolve or devolve and the players of each generation follow suit

The 80s was the no D 125-120 era, so by in large games were more exciting.

Today's game is so soft. People were murdered on the court in the 80s. If you made a shot behind the chalk outline of a body it was worth 4 points.

There were multiple Super Stars that had rivalries in the Finals.Magic and Bird.They faced off in the Finals 5 or 6 times.Dr. J coming close and finally winning one in 83'.Teams that went on runs of multiple championships,then were de-throned by another.Celtics,then Pistons,then Bulls.

Naw man, scoring was through the roof for most of the 80s. Defense was pretty much optional. It wasn't until the Bad Boys Pistons that the game began to slow down and become super physical.

i blame all of this shite on the NBA for allowing it to happen....players push the limits and now think everything is a foul. if lebron played in the 80s he wouldnt be this way. they all conform to whats around them

Fewer teams, so more talent on the teams. Sure, there were top stars on top teams like Jordan/Bird/Magic/Kareen/Isaih, and secondary stars like Dumars/Pippen, but it seemed like all five starters on some of those teams were well known players/stars, like James Worthy, Kevin McHale, Lambeer, Parish, etc., and even the guys coming off the bench were well known like Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson and Kurt Rambus.
There were also a ton of legit centers/true 5's, like Ewing, Parish, Kareem, Olijawan, and later David Robinson and Shaq.

Bird, Magic, and Jordan would all do it, BUT they wouldn't NOT get back on defense to do it. They would wait till a time out or stopped play then give the ref hell. They always kept playing.
I think it was better back in the day just do the the age of the players. Money wasn't as big then, all the players went to college for 4 years. You had guys step in and ready to play.

Such a old person mentality.
If Lebron grew up and played in that era, his mindset would match it. With his size strength and speed he would be able to dish out physical play like few others could 30 years ago.
The way he plays today is the style of play the NBA enforces.
