I just don't see why he would do this.
Nothing has changed since yesterday other than the words. It takes action to withdraw from the draft, not words.

maybe if you were writing for him, this wouldn't have happened.

It seems like an email he sent to everyone. It wasn't really personalized either. I guess we'll see how it goes.

That actually makes the most sense but I don't think that what's happening here. McNamara's twitter feed all last night besides the Spurs/Heat game was about his agent's just playing and now because he got a personal response he believes the agent? I think he was swayed by getting a personal response. Most reporter source networks are full of agents, so he may be buying in just to cultivate a source. Either that or he's being naively wowed by an agent replying to him.
Well, there was no grand plan to hype the readership and then report he was withdrawing. That's kind of far-fetched and likely impossible to control.
Additionally, he's reporting
"Per Dario Saric’s Agent: Decision is Made, Saric will Withdraw from Draft"
Which is completely accurate.
If you have an issue with the OP Title, not the title that was reported, take issue there.
Anyone can take the negative stance just because they don't like the guy, and that is well-within their rights. But for him to put a ton of work into a piece just to have it dashed the next day is not the work of something trying to screw with anyone. It's just someone doing work to bring info to the fans so you can debate things like this.
I think it's better to keep the debates on the players and motives of the agents (all valid) and less on the people taking time to do work.
So, he gets this email . . . what should he do with it? Just keep it to himself? Present it unredacted for the world to see? Just go with his interpretation?
What's the right answer? Really.

This is accurate, except maybe the intention of the player.
Maybe.

If it turns out to be true and Saric withdraws, it becomes clear that no one was committed to pick him very high. If so, there is no way a player or agent would turn that down and head into a very strong draft next year (where you risk going late 1st or 2nd).

Oh well, Time for CJ Mocollum.

He would have to pay part of his large buyout. This certainly does raise his tipping point in the draft from a financial perspective.

I just don't understand why yesterday MM thought the agent was negotiating via the media but today he doesn't. Maybe 2 lockouts have made me overly cynical, but usually when the negotiation through the media ends it seems a little more officially over.

You could be right, but this statement is certainly more definitive. I think he's pulling out (TWSS).
And here I was, totally coming to peace with the pick and getting pretty excited for it.
So...what now? Len? McCollum? Burke? KCP?

Here's what he says in the article.

In all honesty, when the news came out yesterday that he was threatening to withdraw, I thought it was a ploy to secure a promise from a lottery team, but I don’t see any reason why his agent would lie to me to further some kind of secret agenda. It looks like it is true. Saric will pull out of this draft, and the Pelicans will now have to look elsewhere at number 6.
So there's the best answer available now.
He has a point. Who is McNamara? Why would anyone listen to him. Lie to Woj, you get something, but truth or like to McNamara (or me!), what purpose does it serve?
Is this Ivan Drago or an agent with like 50 clients who has more to do with his time than lie to `no one'?

Well said, 42. McNamara was absolutely convinced that the Pelicans were going to draft Saric when discussing this situation internally with us. This withdrawing rumor which started yesterday and appears more like truth this morning caught all of us by surprise.

It is definitely a change in words.
Before it was "leaning", then likely...now the decisions has been made.
Nothing is official until the 17th, but I think he's out.

Leaning to seems accurate since the agent put a time frame on it.
To counter, he could have done that to manage the message so people would interpret it that way.
The question is what sort of long game on an international stage is this agent playing?
Considering the buyout, (He'll have to pay about $1m this coming year), he could drop a couple of spots of still come out to the better due to not having to pay the buyout and the natural increase in scale from year to year. Plus, players always think they'll get better. He just turned 19, so he's not crazy to think he will.

He is a reporter in the same city as a GM that has shown a lot of interest in his client. This is being discussed on the main Pelicans forums this morning. He also is a reporter that had a rumor picked up by larger media outlets in the last few weeks. Lie to Chad Ford maybe he doesn't print your lie next time, lie to some Pelicans blogger and so what if he never takes you seriously again?
As others have said, I hope he is out because we were having to work hard to sell ourselves on him. I'm just not ready to stop being skeptical of his agent yet.

No, he is not.
I am also skeptical of his agent. I'm skeptical of everything, so anytime something happens, I'm wrong. I'm fine with that.
That's a big difference, though.
Yesterday, McNamara makes stuff up is the party line. Today, he passes on verbatim what he gets and his thoughts about it only to get roasted for possibly being duped when no one has talked to the agent, knows much about him, etc. other than he's an Eastern European agent? C'mon man.
If someone writes the article, then another one creates the thread, then he makes the same comments here, it gets a different reaction.
That's pretty silly.
