First time I've used it, I promise! hah, thought doing so may make Lowe more inclined to answer me...

It was a fantastic column, and I agree with 99% of it. I tried to ask him why he thinks that teams will have so much success playing small ball against us, but I couldn't really get an answer out of him, unfortunately.
I'll take 22 year old Jrue over 22 year old Conley without question, but that wasn't what was presented. I disagree that, at this moment, Jrue is the 2nd best PG in the Southwest Division. I think Conley is better. He's also 3 years older, though.

He comes in and is instantly the second best point guard in the SW division and Tony Parker is getting older.

Um, Mike Conley? Age makes it a closer debate, but Conley is the better player right now.
A lot of us are on the patio. Have the sound on out here.

He'll be at Manning's or Tracey's.

Doubt he'll be at Tracey's. If our site has a party and the team has one too, it'd probably look bad for them to go to ours instead of the team sponsored one.

are we expecting a big crowd? don't want to get there too late if it's gonna get packed

Honestly have no idea. I know Matt Moscona has pumped it a couple times on his radio show, especially since he'll be there too. We've never done a party in BR before, so this will be a good way to gauge things for the future.

Burke’s character appears to be a huge deciding factor, and perhaps the tiebreaker between he and McLemore, while the need for stability in the team’s back court gives Burke the nod over Len.

I believe Mcollum would be the choice if this was a factor.

Character involves more than just basketball IQ (which McCollum certainly would score very highly in). Ability to command a huddle and run a team is also very important.
I'm leaving NOLA at 4 PM and going on 104.5 FM w/ Moscona at Plucker's from like 5:30 til 6. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

re: Brandon Jennings being shopped

I've been told that the Pelicans have legitimate interest in Jennings, but the inverse is what's in question.

I don't hate Jennings, but I'm 90% sure that whatever he ends up getting will be an overpayment, which is why I would shy away from him.
No surprise there. I'm sure the Pels would either flip him again quickly or buy him out, more likely the latter option.

on a non-guaranteed deal for the next two seasons

His deal becomes fully guaranteed in about 2 weeks (July 5th), so if the Pelicans are hoping to use that contract detail to their advantage, they'd need to move him soon. Agree with the notion that he has value regardless, though.
12. OKC - CJ McCollum

McCollum going to OKC would be scary. Not totally sold on him yet, but I can't imagine a better environment for him to grow than learning from KD and Westbrook.

Event Info
quote:

Saric himself told Chad Ford in May, mon.

His quote to Ford back in early May:

"When this will happen, and if it will ever happen it does not depend on me," Saric continued. "We are going to offer, but if interest will not be like we expect and wish, we will definitely be withdraw before the draft."

Hard to believe that being a mid-to-late lottery pick would "not be like they expect and wish." Therefore, that rumor appeared to be largely dismissed until Ford presented new data yesterday.
quote:

The rumor started in May that Saric may withdraw from the draft.

If that rumor was in any way credible, I don't think McNamara would have spent so much time on his analysis of Saric. Do you?
quote:

Anyone can take the negative stance just because they don't like the guy, and that is well-within their rights. But for him to put a ton of work into a piece just to have it dashed the next day is not the work of something trying to screw with anyone. It's just someone doing work to bring info to the fans so you can debate things like this.

I think it's better to keep the debates on the players and motives of the agents (all valid) and less on the people taking time to do work.

Well said, 42. McNamara was absolutely convinced that the Pelicans were going to draft Saric when discussing this situation internally with us. This withdrawing rumor which started yesterday and appears more like truth this morning caught all of us by surprise.
