Which leaves us with Appel

I guess since LSU has already been mentioned I'll go ahead... If for some reason Justin Williams falls past day 1 (1st and 2nd round) give me some percentages he makes it to campus? Just for fun of course because I have zero faith it happens

That's my hope...some scuttlebutt that the rockies will take dominic smith at 3 and then byrant would slide to 5. The question was then posed, would the cubs take bryant at 2 offer him 4 million (above what he'd get at 5) and then take the extra money and use it to overslot later since everyone expects that appel will demand all 7 million we can spend.
Then the issue of since they're both Boaras clients, what happens then.

I was reading some quotes from MLB.com guys this morning and this is the general consensus on the two pitchers.
Appel is the most sure thing MLB ready, face of the franchise top player, but Gray has the higher ceiling.

Appel has been good longer...Gray kind of came from nowhere this year. I think the top two pitchers to start the year were Appel and Manea but gray came on super strong. Which is the only hang up i have about gray. For expecting to be the face of staff i personally would like to see a longer body of work.
Side question for cubs fans...with manea being avalible in the 2nd round now...do the cubs go after him with the #2 pick and hope the downslide this year was part of the ebb and flow and not a decline to mediocrity?

Personally, I can't imagine not wanting to come to campus if you don't get taken on Day 1 out of high school. The money won't be that outstanding, unless, of course, your financial situation calls for you to make the decision that you need the money now. Playing at LSU would be a great experience especially when compared to playing in rookie ball or A ball somewhere.
With that said, he probably will be drafted today.

I have no idea about his chances of going to LSU, but I don't expect him to be picked today. His stock has fallen greatly over the course of the season. He isn't on most top 100 lists at this point.

Callis says he's been hearing rumors that the cubs are trynig to cut a deal wtih appel...and expects the 'stros to take gray.

80 power...all you need to know really.
He's a 3b who most think will have to move to a corner outfield spot in the majors

yeah this is what I've seen too. I certainly don't want to get my hopes up too high but falling to about 5 could make it interesting

By my breakdown of Astros Starters vs Top Prospects, we need to get a pitcher, a corner outfielder and a catcher with our first 3 picks.

I want Appel. The only thing Gray has on Appel is fastball velocity. Gray's changeup is below average while Appel's is plus. They probably have near equal control but Appel has much better command. I think both of their sliders are a little overrated. Neither of them consistently throw it as a plus pitch; you never know if their slider will break sharply or be more slurvy. Let's not forget track record. Appel came into this season under the microscope after turning down the Pirates offer last season and improved considerably.
On the subject of Bryant, yes he does have prodigious power (not generational or 80 grade) but how does that power play with his average (if that) hit tool? How does his bat play versus better competition. He never hit worth a damn in any summer league versus good competition. He hit decently for Team USA this past summer but he led the team in strikeouts (30% K rate or thereabouts). I think something like 40% of his HRs this year were off freshman. People also rave about his plate discipline, but look at how many IBBs he has on the year and how often he was pitched around.
Not a fan of Moran. There are some who say he will grow into power (he's really young for a college draft eligible player). He hit something like 14 HR this year which isn't too shabby, but he also hit a pathetic amount of doubles. You would like to see a lot more doubles if he's supposedly going to grow into some power. It's much easier to believe in his plate discipline since he wasn't pitched around to the extent of Bryant.

I would agree with this. Appel could be one that is up in the big leagues next season.
Samardzija
Garza
Wood
Appel
They will trade him, but Feldmania would make that one of the better rotations.

If it's not Appel, I hope it's Bryant.

Garza
ETA: PS, LSU/Cubs fans, Rotoworld mentioned that the Orioles "weren't interested" in Garza. But they did mention Gausman as a return player in a trade. That's a lot of dot connecting, but it was bonerific to read Gausman and Cubs in the same breath.
