I'm just going to throw this into the barrel... Coach and players have often talked about pregame routines and throwing a few days prior to starting when players were coming back from injury. It's likely by the time Mainieri decided to suspend Glenn, Eades was already part of the way through his "pre start preparation" and Coach decided not to mess with that. Couple the fact in that if we go Eades-Nola as our first two starters, it's likely we only use 3 or 4 innings worth of relief pitchers and have a relatively full bullpen for Sunday. If we go "jonny bullpen" today, we might end up in a hole if Eades/Nola can't go as long as tehy normally do.

It's a sucky situation, but it's not the end of the world. As others have stated, we got through the SECT on a lot of bullpen action; we can do it again here if we need to. This certainly removes a lot of margin for error, but granted before this we did have a lot. So now we just have less...

Good thing we still have Clay Dirks then, isn't it?

Lets say we're up 4-0 after 2 today.

Do you yank Eades so he can start on Sunday?

There is some truth to that, but rain could cause the same problem. It is disingenuous to pretend like that is more important than selecting a matchup that gives you the best chance at winning.

I don't agree with the decision, but I'm 100% sure that Mainieri is making it for strategic reasons. Like others have said, he's banking on Nola on Sat and feels good about what ULL has behind their #2.

In short, this decision is a reflection of what he thinks of ULL and SHSU.
