Tesla paid their loan off 9 years early
And they make a cheaper version for around 70k, 108k is not anywhere near the base model. Obviously out of the price range of most Americans at this point, but for someone looking at a 50-60k BMW or Mercedes, it would be reasonable.
Their plan is to have a model around the 40k price point within the next couple years. I think that is when we'll know whether or not electric cars can gain any serious chunk of market share.

It makes me nauseous paying $150 each time my car needs an oil change. But it's a relief to know there are crazier people willing to spend $10k to change a battery.

There's an 8 year, unlimited mileage, no-fault warranty on them. They will replace a failed battery for any reason other than deliberate damage with a pack of equal or greater capacity and range than when the original was factory new. Also, the batteries used in vehicles are much, much higher quality than the ones used in laptops and cell phones, especially Tesla's batteries. Tesla roadsters have been on the road for 5 years and have seen little to no loss of range. Batteries have been lab-tested to half a million miles and have seen little loss of range. And today's batteries are better and cheaper than those 5 year old roadster batteries. In summary, I wouldn't worry about it.

Methinks your math is off, way off
I drive an SUV that gets 14mpg. My gas bill is $4K a year.
I can travel long distances and not have to wait an hour to refuel. How much is your time worth?
And I paid less than half on my loaded SUV, than what a loaded Tesla will cost. At 0% interest.

There are two on LSU's campus and they are free. The app shows where the stations are and if someone is hooked up to them. Lots in Houston, etc..
edit: I dont see the LSU ones listed anymore. But for sure used to have one in touchdown village and one by kirby. Maybe LSU is no longer green?

Also announced that they were updating the superchargers (software I guess?) and it will now only be 20 mins for a half charge.

To be clear, they paid it off with Debt and Equity. So that is kind of misleading. Yeah, the government got its money back. But, it isn't a sign of an amazing business model.

Really? Because if we are being honest with ourselves we will see that these attempts to lock Tesla out is a chump move.
Texas is blocking Tesla under the guise of protecting consumers by conserving the competition between dealerships. They are worried that changing current franchise laws would open the door for larger manufacturers to begin selling directly to consumers. Well god forbid producers and consumers do business directly, cutting out the middleman that nobody likes to deal with anyway. It's kind of funny because Dell Computers kind of led the way in selling direct to consumers in the PC industry, and is based in Texas.
Then they throw out the whole "it'll hurt family-owned franchises" spiel. frick that. Why do states have laws that favor one business model over another? Shouldn't the free market decide? The dealers like to appeal to the consumers saying they are doing what's best for them, local presence and what-not. They should stop being pussies and lobbying for laws protecting their businesses, and instead welcome the competition and opportunity to show consumers their value.
And why is it the small-government, regulation-hating red states that we keep hearing about strictly enforcing these ridiculous anti-business regulations?
I don't think Musk is going to back down, and in the process with all the publicity I think more people are going to start realizing what's going on.
It may be the first domino, but I think they will start to fall in a different direction than you expect.

Really? Its a textbook business move. Bill Gates made a gazillion dollars doing it. Freeze out the competition, until they can't afford to compete. He even lost in the Supreme Court, but was so entrenched that it didn't matter

Bill Gates made his money by being a good businessman. Microsoft had spent zero dollars on lobbyists by the time the antitrust stuff came about, and Gates was still against hiring lobbyists. Only when he realized there was no other way to go about it did Microsoft start lobbying. Microsoft played the legal game because they were forced into it for survival. All Gates wanted was the freedom to distribute software the way he wanted to distribute it. Microsoft is Tesla in this scenario, the opposite of what you intended. What these dealers are doing is a chump move, and shows a total lack of confidence in their business model.

On the way out? They are still receiving orders faster than they can fulfill them. They are pushing as many units of plug-in vehicles as Chevy and Nissan are, despite being priced much, much higher. On the luxury/sport front, they are selling more units than similarly-priced vehicles from car manufacturers that have been in business for a century, and that aren't closing up shop anytime soon.
And there's another huge thing in Tesla's favor: the cost to produce traditional cars typically stays the same or increases, while the main cost to produce Tesla's cars (the batteries) will continue to drop at a rapid pace.
Checkmate? Not even close.
