Planning to bring the wife there this week. I've never been. What to expect, what to wear, what to order?

I think you'll find mostly unfavorable reviews on here.
The bread is really the strong point, for whatever that's worth.

I haven't been there and don't plan to mainly because the reviews here are usually pretty negative. I think LL likes it. I know someone says they never have a problem there.
I LOVE Gino's though. That's another reason I'll probably not go there. Hard not to go to Gino's to satisfy my Italian cravings.

Best Steak in BR.....if you order it right!

Ribeye with Roasted Garlic is top notch! LV serves prime meat...so steaks are solid. The Village Bread is a must! Gumbo and Bisque are a winner as well. Service can be a little shakey....and be wary of the specials, as the servers rarely quote the prices.......good grub, but can get relatively expensive.

My Favorite Italian

This is my favorite place in BR to go for Italian. The bread is amazing, along with the Lobster Bisque. I have no ordered a steak but I have heard it's one of the best steaks in town with one of the best prices. Like someone else said, watch out for the specials because the waiters don't quote the prices and they are almost always higher than most items on the menu. But if you're looking for good Italian with a cute atmosphere, LV is the place.

I love LV.
That said, the favorable reviews from the rest of the board came years ago. Notice the ones you posted are from 2010.
Their ribeye used to be $26 and it was damn fine FOR THE PRICE. But I believe it's like $40 now.

There are some other reviews on the dining guide and it's got a 4 star rating there, but on the board, it's been clobbered a number of times. Mixed bag.

Food was okay when I went, but not worth the price. The service was terrible. I guess the server didn't think she was going to get a decent tip out of me. I made sure she got the tip she thought she was going to get.

If you order stuff thats not $40, I think its worth it. Ive never had bad service there like some people have said.
They do run specials but dont say the price when they come to the table. Goes like this. Most of the fish dishes are $20-24 range and somehow the fish special is $38-40.
I will second the Gino's suggestion and add in DiGiulio Brothers. I will have to say overall that DiGiulios is the best place IMO. The atmosphere is a little more laid back, good prices, and plenty enough food. I think the atmosphere is better because its more of your little Italian neighborhood place. Im comparing all of this directly to Gino's. Gino's gets the most love on here, and I do think they have the best Italian food in the city, but their portions have gotten smaller over the years, while the prices have remained high.

Since they opened second location I think both have suffered not to mention Le Creole who are same owners. Service at Airline location is terrible. Chef downtown went to Airline for awhile, quality at both places went down.
I think there opening another restaurant in Central

Other than the bread and lobster bisque, everything else is pretty subpar. I've seen a steady decline in quality for awhile now.

I was one that would defend the place in the past few years but they have priced themselved out of the market for what I found to be worth going for and have not been back since. if you go the general rule of thumb though is to not order a special without knowing the price.

That was what I am referring to. Went from being a very good deal to overpriced in a hurry.
BTW the other addition to me never going back was the Little Village "Amy's Bakery" poster that came on this site. Completly turned me off on the place while I was defending the place in the same thread.

My last few visits have featured aggressively terrible service and cold food. I won't be back.

Hit or miss service with excellent food
Dressy casual.
Bread for an app
Bartender is talented
I get the beef cannelloni with the two sauces
A lot of hate on this board for it. Ive never experienced a bad time or bad food.
Good luck!
Not sure if this means much, but i havent been in over a year. Got a 1 year old that wouldnt act right in a nice place. He will be lucky to go out to dinner again before he is 8.
