Going to NYC soon and staying at the Marriott in Times Square. I'm curious if anyone has any recommendations for any restaurants around the area or around NYC. Looking to stay away from the typical chains and get some good food. I definitely want to stop by Little Italy.
you realize there are thousands of restaurants...in midtown alone. little italy is a start, but they are all the same. basically just walk up to one and enjoy. Don Nico is one of my favorites because it's got a very nice patio out back and it's not overly expensive at all.
but give us a few other types of food you want so we can specify.
and whoever posted artichoke earlier

I would love to have recommendations for casual meals in NYC. My daughter, sister, niece and I are going in June.
We are not interested in high end and/or fancy restaurants. Just some places with good food that we can enjoy quickly so we can get back to being tourists.
I'm thinking Italian, pizza, chinese, nothing too exotic as my daughter is kind of picky.

Cesca in the Upper West Side, I believe. Best meal I ever ate in my life.

Thanks for the input everyone. And I am also looking just for something casual, not too expensive. Going to a Yankees game one night and the other days/nights I just want my group to enjoy some good food. I like the delis for lunch. I'm not picky

Il Bastardo is a great italian joint in chelsea if you're in that area

The Breslin in midtown. Amazing lamb burger.

Little Italy is pretty much nonexistent now. Chinatown has almost completely encroached upon them. Not really worth going down there if that's the only thing you're looking to check out.
If you're a craft beer nerd definitely hit up Rattle N Hum. Great beer selection in midtown east and they're bar food is pretty decent too. Also my favorite bars in the city are Blind Tiger and Valhalla .. just to throw out a couple of bar recs.
For eating near your hotel I'd rec Islands Burgers and Shakes for a quick lunch spot. Good burgers and sandwiches. Also further up 9th ave is Kashkaval which is a cool little spot for dinner.
Other than that man there's thousands of places to eat, I would get it down to an area of the city and type of cuisine then get onto Yelp and see which places have good reviews.
If you're in Brooklyn definitely check out Fette Sau. Best bbq in NYC.

Hate to say it, but Flay's Mesa Grill sucks...

not a huge fan.
I guess I'm biased though. I'd rather take the subway up to BX and go to the real Little Italy on Arthur Avenue. Roberto's

New York has so much to offer, no one can do everything, so you have to decide.. Do you want to do what New York does best or do you want what you like, in New York.. I always check out New York Magazine prior to going out.. You can check the restaurant reviews by neighborhood and make informed decisions.. Good luck.. Enjoy.. Have a blast.
