Nine Dragon on Burbank

I dont' want to insult anybody's taste.. but Nine Dragon is dirty.. Cobwebs with bugs in em in the corners.. greasy tables and counter.. Went once.. Never going back.. My go-to for take out Chinese is China Bear on Bluebonnet and Perkins.

Omi is by far the best, but he needs to advertise more. Every time I've gone I've been the only one there.

Great Wall is the best Buffet
I'm partial to Red or Nine Dragon (which ever one is next to Mellow Mushroom on Burbank) as a good lunch spot. Sadly, P.F. Chang's might have the best Chinese food in the city.

You can't be serious.

Omi and Hunan are both superior to PF Changs.

Never tried either of those due to them being on the opposite side of town from where I live and work. I might have to try them.

I need to try Omi.
As far as take out goes, either Oriental Pearl on Government or China One on Government (next to Piggly Wiggly)

I miss Bamboo Gardens accross from the Lake. They had the best Kung Poa shrimp.

It really doesn't exist in BR. I have likely been to Hunan's more than any of the others, occasionally I'll be surprised by a dish, but it is pretty bad. The buffet items range from the inedible to the passable. I don't want to sound condescending, but if you've had the good stuff, this isn't it. The Oriental Pearl on Sherwood isn't too bad at lunch, NEVER go at dinner, it is the same stuff.

Many years ago, before I lived here, I had to bring a 6 person Chinese trade delegation to BR for a meeting. I called a foodie friend and asked what the best place Chinese place it town was so I could feed them, "we keep it in Covington (Trey Yuen)", was the answer. He was right.

New Orleans had some pretty good places, the Peking in NO East, 5 Happiness, but I haven't been to those places in over 25 years, I don't know if they exist.

Not Chinese, but I have been amazed by some of the dishes from Thai Chili on Coursey. The basil chicken is my "go to" lunch.

I also like Thai Chili. I usually get the black pepper beef (I customize it the way I want), pad thai, and coconut shrimp/chicken. I like the fact that they deliver, and you can also use coupon codes from eat24.com to make your meal even cheaper.

As for Hunan, I NEVER go for the buffet. They put their crappiest items on there, it seems. I have, however, found some items on the menu that are very good, my favorite being the scallop/prawns with fruit sauce, served with fresh melon and sweetened walnuts.

As for Oriental Pearl, I've never cared for it. My wife loves their buffet; I just think it's your average Chinese buffet.

Several years ago I would have said that Trey Yuen was the best. Nowadays, not so much.

In New Orleans I usually stick to Little Chinatown (on Williams in Kenner) and Jung's Golden Dragon on Magazine. Both serve some authentic dishes that are very good.

Still, in Baton Rouge, if you haven't tried Omi, that's the place to go. It is head and shoulders above anything else I've had in BR.

I'd like to try, but is it in that dreaded location at off Essen, One Callais Place? Where restaurant careers go to die.

Unfortunatel, yes. It's a shame too, because the food is great and the restaurant interior is really nice.

They may be able to turn it around. The food is impressively good. The two Friday evening's that Ive eaten there have been full of Chinese families and students. The Saturday lunch I had there was about half full of white folk. I would try to look past that cursed location and give it a shot. It is as good as sichuan that I've had in Dallas and Houston's respective "china town" areas.

Govt St or Coursey at Sherwood? They are nothing alike, except in name, that the nice yet naive husband and wife originators on Coursey have let their cousins over on Govt St to sully.

It's solid not worldbeater, but the OP Coursey >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> OP Govt St.

Chinese Inn circa 1975 to 1995(Fla Blvd and later Airline Hwy) under the ownership of MK Wong, was the best Chinese fare BR has ever known. Now just exists in name only.
