These are the things that the average citizen does not understand. Just because an asset is within XXX miles of the incident does not mean they can respond in a timely fashion.
Okay I am a cop in city XXXX which I acually am...I get a call that nearby local city XX has two officers pinned down by a bank robbery....I cant respond 5 miles away because we have to attend a training class on robberies.....

First of all, thank you for what you do.
There are slight differences to your profession and mine. Every day when you stand roll call, you know that you could have a potentially violent encounter. You enter your patrol car armed and mentally prepared.
Being a Soldier on a training exercise is not the same. You may (or may not) have some live ammunition with you. Small arms only ( depending upon what type of range you are at) at best. You would probably not have a full complement of ordnance (combat load) with you. Arranging ground transportation to an airfield, coordinating air transportation, where will you land, how will you be transported to the site, communications procedures, link up procedures with those "in extremis", medical evacuation plans. There are a lot of moving pieces.
I know you meant well. Not even remotely comparable. That is why we build contingency plans and have units on alert status to be prepare for this.
Unfortunately, it is apparent this was not done.

I'll venture a guess it is a little more complicated than that.
Why we didn't ask the Brits for help is quite puzzling though, as is the unarmed drone.

It seams like having your ONLY in-extremis force unavailable out on a training mission is a bit irresponsible. If there was another I don't know about it and I'm sure it's classified. If there was another I don't know why there weren't mobilized.
Especially around 9/11, especially after O had been spiking the football on Bin Laden. Especially in such a destabilized area as Libya.
Terrorist attacks are going to happen. But to be so poorly prepared, then to blatantly lie about the cause of the attack is the real scandal.
Obama just couldn't fathom that US interests would be attacked, with all of his "outreach".
What an egomaniac.

For seven hours they were under attack and we can't get any help to these people bS. This is the biggest cover up in the history of this country all because of an election campaign. I am not sure anything will come of this because of the corruption and the cess pool that is DC. The fact that this was covered up to get this guy re elected is treason. Why mitt romney let him off the hook in the second debate was when I knew the fix was in and he was a cissy like McCain was in 08, the republican party had a chance to bury this guy and pussed out again. We have gotten what we deserve.

Egypt started before Benghazi, we should have already had forces on alert in the region...

The embassy had been attacked twice in the same year before 9/11.

To be fair, seven hours isn't really that long. We have the benefit of 20/20 hindsight and countless news articles and being able to run over all these scenarios in a no stressful setting.
We're there mistakes made prior to and during the attack. Absolutely. Mostly due to fog of war probably. That doesn't excuse it but I don't think there was anything nefarious about it. Just incompetence and shitty luck.
Also, they may have been trying to keep unnecessary players, like the Brits, out of it due to some kind of CIA operation in the area. They made a gamble and lost big. That is speculation on my part though.
The real mystery here is why blame it on a video for so long? Why alter the talking points to avoid the word terrorism? They would have egg on their face if they had just admitted it was a terrorist attack and they had been caught off guard but now it's just going to make them look worse.
But he did get elected, and managed to deflect the issue for eight months so that the majority of Americans wouldn't know WTF YOU were talking about if you said the words Benghazi, Ambassador Stevens, or Muslim outrage video anymore.
So it looks like the admin has won this one regardless of any facts that come out now.

I believe the Regional Diplomatic Security Officer was fired. I can't imagine with all the military assets in the region he was responsible for all that. It's a fact, this consulate had been attacked on several occasions and was a known target. Obviously, the RDSO deserved to be relieved of his duty, but that's not really the story.
Strategically, the US waged a stealth invasion with its allies. By stealth, I mean not a heavy force on the ground. This low visibility strategy continued after the government fell and the new government took over. Stevens was responsible for finding and destroying all the "Man Pads" (10,000's that could effect commercial flight for decades) in Libya. It was basically a small unit CIA task force he worked with in Libya. The normal marine and diplomatic security forces were not present in Libya and Stevens even wrote about being targeted and the Brits eventually abandoned their embassy.
What happened in Libya is a disgrace and we should have been prepared for any hostile engagement on Ambassador Stevens.

If this comes to anything, which I don't expect it to, it will hinge on reputable people saying things regarding either a willful cover up or direct threats made against them by named administration or state dept officials attempting to coerce them to play along.
It's go big or go home Wed.
Same goes for Congress. If they play their bullshite games and don't ask the obvious questions and don't press, we'll be re-assured that they are all in it together and the truth doesn't matter.

Unless there are paper trails and/or voice recordings to back up these guys then I just don't think verbal arguments will get much mileage.

Probably been covered before, but what would be the purpose in not sending in help if it was available? Why would our govt just sit back and allow this to happen, then spread all these lies after the fact? The evidence is pretty damning that something shady was happening in my opinion. I just want to know why.

How bad does this have to get before someone really important loses his or her job (and I don't mean Hilary)?

Because the press is in their pocket? Maybe people will buy it and the story will go away?

Hell, Nixon had a way out, too - come as clean as possible and throw the subordinates under the bus. The cover-up was worse than what he originally authorized in passing.

Just like Clinton - had he come out and admitted the affair with Lewinsky, he would have had to go - that's why the obfuscated and denied until polling shifted the other way. Same thing here - they're just running the Lewinsky crisis action plan all over again - when the polling shifts on what he "should do," he'll come out, admit mistakes were made by other people, announce some resignations/retirements and know that the press will carry his water to the grave.
It's disgusting.

I think it was the reason a lot of brass was fired in the weeks and months following the attack.
The rest I'm in agreement on.
