Does anyone use a French Press as their primary Coffee Maker?

Got tired of the tepid results of my (many) electric models.
With very little effort, The Press makes outstanding Bold coffee. I am converted.

Yeah, it is idiot proof as boiling water is all that is required.

I have had one since Christmas and still haven't used it. It's a Cucino Romano, I think it's pretty good, I just never have enough time in the morning to do it.

Put the kettle of water on when you get up. Fill Beaker with coarse-ground coffee. When water boils, pour into Beaker. Wait 5-7-9 minutes. Plunge.
Beats every coffee maker I've ever had.

Great for coffee and tea. Really doesn't take that long.

I know a couple that has. They love it.
We still use the Keurig. Germans FTW.

I freaking love my French press. As good as it is though, I only so it on weekends.

I work as a barista, and our house coffee is all French pressed. It's a little more effort but the taste makes it well worth it. We don't even HAVE a drip maker.

Once you go press, or any non-drip/percolator/keurig single cup coffee maker -- you will never go back.
You forgot the part about stirring. Also about distributing the water evenly and in stages.

Raises hand. Best way to control the water temp as well.
Coffe is best brewed with water right under the boiling point. And let it rest during the brewing. Very smooth

I do every morning. Drip coffee just can't compare.

me and my coffee-loving buddy at work use one most days of the week. heat the water in an electric kettle, fill FP with grounds, pour in water. let steep for 8 minutes, press, pour.

My tips:
The optimal extraction temp is 190f, so I remove the kettle when boiling then grind and measure out the course grains. I pour the water in and stir to mix. I usually let it steep for 4:30 or 5:00 minutes then plunger. I immediately pour the coffee out of the press into a warmed insulated carafe. I don't like it sitting on the grounds. Drink straight.

Seeing as I average around five cups a day, I have been looking at getting one for a little while now. Any suggestions on a good one?

A french press is not something you really need to spend a ton of money on. $30 would be the top of my budget for a new one. Just swing by the Bed, Bath & Beyond next time you hit the west bank for some Tan Dinh.

I've been using one for years. Mine is a stainless Bodum model. I never stir, just pour the water over the grounds. I thought my instructions said to steep for 4 minutes. Am I doing it wrong? I do love the taste.
