49ers rookie Quinton Patton shows up too early for work, sent home
Yes, you read that correctly.
49ers rookie wide receiver Quinton Patton, eager to begin work with his new team, flew from Nashville to San Francisco at his own expense Monday to work out with the club. However, the 49ers sent home the fourth-round pick from Louisiana Tech before he arrived at the club’s facilities.
According to 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, who told the story on KNBR-AM in San Francisco on Wednesday, Patton would not have been able to take part in the club’s rookie minicamp from May 10 through May 12 if he arrived this week. According to Harbaugh, NFL rookies can be present at a club’s facilities right after they are drafted, but Patton was arriving after that period of time. (For those interested in hearing the story, Harbaugh’s remarks begin at about the eight-minute mark at the above link. Also, a hat tip to the 49ers for mentioning Patton’s interesting journey on Twitter.)

Poor Quinton. No bowl game, now no mini-camp

Gotta love his enthusiasm!
Sandberg he's going to mini camp, he just can't be at the facility till then. Harbaugh loves his attitude.

That makes absolutely no sense at all.

The not being able to go the facility till mini camp starts doesn't make sense to me either. Maybe a liability issue or something.

No. Under the new collective bargaining agreement there are very strict rules about how much time a player is allowed to be at the facility in an official capacity.

Maybe, but Patton is pretty damn good. I bet he's around for a few years.

Rookies can't participate in team activities until after their school's academic calendar ends.
That's been a league rule for a long time.

I believe it has something to do about the spring semester not being over, yet. A few years back one of the Saints drafts picks couldn't come the facilty because his school was on the quarter system and wouldn't end for another 2 weeks.

LOL at the butthurt just because he went to LaTech. Regardless of where he went to school, this guy is a gamer. I hope he has a long career.
