NHL, PGA, etc.

You posted while I was looking up stories. I took some sweet time trying to find the NFL's actual tax return online.

I have a resource where I can get any foundation and grant makers tax returns. I could only find the NFL's Disaster Relief Fund and their Youth Football Fund. The NFL keeps their records sealed tight.

Here's the NFL Youth Football Fund's 990

And the NFL probably has a powerful lobby to keep it that way

Each team pays taxes. The NFL is the group overseeing the teams. They are nonprofit all the money goes to the teams...

The owners pay taxes on their income. Lots and lots of taxes.

The NFL is just the overseeing body.

Misleading thread.

It washes through the ownership group's tax returns. I'd have to imagine that schedule K could get dicey.

This. I didn't think the fact that the NFL wouldn't pay taxes would be shocking.

On top of that many states have it set up so they tax opposing players game checks when they visit.

Misleading indeed.

That's because they earned the income in that state.

ETA: It's also why people should want to play for the Astros, Rangers, or Mariners. They get more state tax free games than anyone else.

Form 990 should be filed with the Secretary of State, and open to public inspection. Have you searched the Secretary of State's website for the state in which the NFL is incorporated?

ETA: The NFL is not a corporation it is a trade association exempt from tax under Section 501(c)(6). My original post should have used the term organized rather than incorporated at the end.

Then you don't understand what a nonprofit organization is. All it basically means is that every profit that is made is put back into the business.

Ochsner is an example of a nonprofit organization in this area. They makes gobs of money, but they put every dime back into their hospitals.
