On my way to Searchers 4x4- UPDATE: Death Wobble cured

For some expert analysis regarding the death wobble of my Jeep. It's almost to the point where I can't drive it safely and there isn't a shot in hell that I'm going to LightLine.

Recommend talkig directly to Phillip - owner. Others are good but IMHO he is the best. good luck. I have a TJ and have not experienced that yet but heer it is not fun! There is also alot of good information on this condition on the jeep forum if interested. Good luck!

Good luck!!My neighbor had his there for while for the same reason. Think his was the track bar and a bent tie rod.

I talked to Phillip yesterday and told him I was coming so we could figure it out. I've been a member on JeepForum and JeepsUnlimited since 06 and have read a whole lot of info regarding this, but I'd rather see a technician with first hand experience.

I looked yesterday and I've got a significant amount of play in my drag link and tie rod, which I'm almost certain is the culprit. I'm done taking my shite apart and not having the tools to get things done properly, so this will be money well spent IMO.

Great guys over there. They did my TJ right. Good luck.

Buy and have him install his tie rod/drag link kit. It is beefy as hell and will not bend. I had it on my TJ and never had an issue with it and it hit some pretty big rocks with barely a scratch.
ETA: good choice on not going to LL

Sorry to hear about the death wobble. That shite is scary. I would never want to experience that in my Jeep.
So what was your experience with LL that made you steer clear? I agree that I think Searchers is better, but I didn't see anything about LL that was terrible. I think their 'customer service' could be a little better...

I gave them a shot on my F150 and their customer service and overpriced shite made me regret it. Searchers is high in their price but their expertise is worth it. LL has nothing more to offer than Kirks or Pepboys.

I work by LL and every time I go in there (had to get a KC bulb recently), they hassle me about why I didn't have them install my lift, or why I didn't use them to order my front bumper just to name a few. I do not get that hassle at Searchers.

Update:
So Phillip was in the shop doing some fabricating but I talked with Josh about the problem. He basically told me that my tie rod end is completely shot and he said no bullshite it's one of the worst he has seen! He also mentioned to me about a bushing on my trac bar that has some lag that needs to be replaced. He gave me a tour of the shop and we talked for a few minutes about all the builds and other cool shite that they have going on. All of these guys are jeep owners and seemingly really know what they are talking about. All in all a nice way to spend a couple hours of my time when I thought all hope was lost. Granted I only talked to Josh, but they have a great operation and are extremely welcoming.
They are gonna order my parts ASAP and get me back on the road.

I had it on my F250 when I got it to the tune of this
Watch the whole video
$2500 worth of joints and a new steering stabilizer fixed it.
With lifted stuff, it typically is a combo of the angle between the track bar and drag link and worn out joints from bigger tires
On the contrary, Phil is a really nice guy and barely charges over magazine prices for stuff

quote:I used to work at Light Line and wouldn't ever shop there or let them do any work. Their stuff is typically marked up at least 100% over cost, and the main thing is Ricky is one of the biggest assholes I have ever met. I even had to sign a non-compete paper stating that I couldn't even work on my family's cars

Yup. Luckily it wasn't my ball joints.

Look it up on Pirate if you want to know more. Lifted jeeps are notorious for doing it.

Just watched the video... no shite dude, mine is almost that bad but it's at a little bit lower speeds for the most part.
