it's the spring game, so i know that much of the play calling should be taken with a grain of salt, but do you think this is the sort of thing we can expect to see out of the cameron offense?

did copeland line up there from the huddle on 1/9/2012?
Pretty sure he did. Never watched the TV broadcast but yea I think he lined up there out of the huddle 4-5 times.

I say that the goal is to design, and run, plays that the opponent's defense hasn't seen before or very often. I could care less where the fullback lines up if it confuses the defense and makes for a successful play.

I don't remember all the specifics, but it was a 3rd and 3 on the 42 with 10:14 remaning in the 3rd quarter. Copeland was slot left, JJ scrambled around for a sack and the Tigers punted. I throw a pillow at the TV and mixed another drink.

Who the hell do you think you are bra? What's the highest level of football YOU have coached? Just because you can win dynasties on Xbox, that doesn't mean you are cut out to design playbooks for the highest division of college football

did anyone else notice that connor neighbors lined up in the slot for one play in the spring game? and he was thrown to. weird.
Cameron's strategy is to force mismatches. I am not enough of a strategist to figure how that works with the FB in the slot but it may alter coverage of other receivers or leave a "bull" open in the secondary if they choose to blitz or flood a zone.
It could also be a no-huddle situation where the FB is in the game the previuos play and a poor cover LB is left in the game on a pass play and has to cover the slot...

I have no problem putting JC in the slot or throwing out of the backfield to him.

That gif is awesome
It's a shame people turn their nose up at it bc it would never work on xbox

the concept is simple, you leave 21 personnel (2 back 1 te) in the game and the defense stays in their base 4-3. when you put the fullback in the slot the defense will likely handle it in one of 2 ways: they will either flex an LB, or roll down the SS. If they flex the LB then you may or may not have a good matchup there. What you DO have is the mike having to cover the TE on the stick concept (which is what LSU ran a ton of out of that trey formation). the mike will either be leveraged by staying in his base alignment allowing an easy throw and catch to the TE or slide over (which typically means that backside LB will slide as well creating a 4-2 look) thus creating a favorable look to the single wr side.
if the defense rolls down a SS over the fullback and maintains a 4-3 box then both the fullback and TE are in trouble by alignment BUT what you have created is virtual one on one matchups for the outside wrs because you've dictated a one high safety look. this allows you to check to curls, comebacks, or what ever other one on one routes you want for landry and crew.
bringing in a 3rd wr in place of the fullback is certainly a viable option but will often mean they go to nickel.
as has been said, it is a spring game and last year lsu ran a ton of stick so for opposing teams there's nothing new to see here.

I don't have a problem with it. Also saw Dickerson out wide on a play or two. It ended up being a WR screen for little to no gain but I thought it was funny because the meathead know-it-all sitting next to me pointed it out and told his buddy that they would be throwing it to him on curl route because it would be indefensible for the CB.

From an overall play calling perspective, I was just glad to see the Tigers show so many different possibilities, esp. throwing more to the FB & TE. Realizing it is the spring game & they aren't going to give away the entire playbook, it was a refreshing & very welcome change from the often predictable and sometimes ineffective play-calling of the past few seasons.

Agreed, I do feel like Dillon Gordon has a chance to be special this year.
