FA Signing: JR SMITH??

Been thinking about this scenario for quite some time now, I'm of the opinion that JR Smith can/is on the verge of being a borderline elite player. Dude balls when is head is in the game and is a "go to" player late in games.
If he has a great run in the playoffs, who here feels we should sign him with some of that cap room coming up, trade E Gordon, get some quality pieces for him (starting PG, SF and/or sound bench players/draft pick) and then use the draft to possibly draft a player ready to contribute right away if available (Porter, Burke, etc.). I think this scenario accelerates the rebuilding process and keeps us young. Wouldn't mind seeing a Denver like team where we throw out a bunch of quality players on a nightly basis and on any given night anyone can step up. Would be exciting, right?
Smith can come back, be the face of the franchise with Davis and finally get recognition as an upper echelon type player. I believe he has matured to this point and he is desperately wanting to be the man on a team now. I truly believe, when motivated he is a top 15-20 player in this league and he is now what we thought he would be in his 1st tour with NO. (Damn you Byron!)
What do yall think? I thinking serious title contender in a year or two if this happens...

Better Question
Would you want to resign Darren Collison?

Lol. Didn't expect such an overwhelming consensus response like this... Is it bc no one believes in his game or is it bc of his past transgressions?
To laugh at the suggestion I believe is crazy. Dude can ball and I believe he is about to have a breakout playoff season. Melo can't do it all and if the Knicks get to the second round or better, it WILL be bc Smith hooped his arse off.
Tell me what would yall rank Smith when on? Top 20, 30, 50 player in the league?

Its because:
a) JR Smith would never come back here, period. He wants to be PAID, AND he wants to be in a large market. He likes the attention and hated it here.
b) JR Smith is a complete idiot. A proven piece of shite knucklehead that has been passed around the league like a sorority girl, despite his immense talent. Giving him a ton of money and making him the focus of your team would be the worst mistake ever. He NEEDS to be on a team that has other stars and personalities to keep him in check.
c) He's a complimentary piece, as I previously suggested. Not a start. Great offensive player/6th man on a team with already great players.
d) Why would you want a proven idiot around your young players? frick that.
There are a million other reasons. It is laughable to think we would want him and he would want us.
That's why you got the responses.

In terms of potential and his scoring, it's not an unreasonable question. Problem is he'll want stupid money and I don't trust him to refrain from being a dick.

Still waiting on people to rank Smith in NBA? Top 20, 30,50 player? I feel easily would be a franchise player in Charlotte, maybe Atlanta, Sacramento... So that at least makes him a Top 30 player right?

Yes, he brings instant offense to the game. But the dude is a straight up punk. You give a straight up punk that kind of contract, and make him your "franchise" setting the example he sets, not good. You make him your "franchise", your "franchise" will suffer. JMO.
Eta.. There is NO WAY this is Monty's type of player.
