Lets discuss Crappie/Sacalait/White Perch jigging.

I have always done much better catching them with minnows than with jigs. I just dont have a lot of confidence in jigs or artificials for crappie.
What are your favorite jigs or artificials, and why?
What colors?
How do you like to present them?

I actually use artificials more than shiners. I usually use rubber skirt jigs. A black with chartreuse tail is prolly my go to.

irrelivant
BUt back on topic:
If i am vertical jigging i like those squid type jigs. If i am casting and retrieving I like road runners. Colors vary due to depth and clarity. In deeoer water I like blues with chart tails or white tails in shallow water I like reds with chart tails. If water gets murky I use a dark green jig.

Just a regular tube jig, or I also like these

Blue and white, black and chartreuse, solid chartreuse on a white or chartreuse jig head.

Depends on how close I can get to the fish. If you can use a jig pole, remember to keep the line going straight into the water. I let the jig sink until it hits bottom or a fish hits it. When you see your line curl up on top of the water slowly jig, you have either hit bottom, have a fish, or you have hit an obstruction.
If you can't reach to jig I use a slip cork and pop the cork back to me slowly.

I fish jigs two ways. Under cork and just straight line jigging.
Under cork is usually done in shallow water, but can be done when fish are over grass. They will come up a long way to hit what they can see, but will not go down.
I fish jigs without a cork in water over 6' deep.
I believe color is overrated, but I do use some general rules. In clear water with blacks, I use light colors with blues and pearls. If stained, I'll go to Cajun Cricket or Ernge and Chartreuse.
I don't think whites are as picky and will hit anything bright. They really love black/Chartreuse.

In my experience, jigs work better for sac-a-lait, but for perch, I've been using Crappie Bites....can't beat it.

My favorite pattern is when they are in 14+' water and you can fish them vertically with no cork.
Bobby Garland Straight tail jigs.
My favorite combo: White 1/16 oz head with an
electric chicken jig.

If they are biting jigs will out fish live bait. Jigging is all about presentation and method. Make sure your jig is not hanging verticle or turning circles as you pull up on the jig pole. Another piece of advice is to never let slack in your line. Jig up slowly and let the jig sink slowly. Most of the time a perch will strike on the way down. When the fish hits the jig he will be moving in an upwards motion which will put slack in the line. If you are letting the jig sink slowly and you see slack in the line you have either landed the jig on top of something or it is in the mouth of a fish. I have watched people jigging and miss fish because they did not know to watch for slack on the down stroke of jigging.
After reading I see some folks are talking different fish. I am talking about white pearch

It all depends on the time of the year and water color.
Spawn, blue/white/silver in the 1/32 oz. Runner up on cloudy days is a firecracker tube jig in the 1/32 oz.
Early spring, I'm in for some black/green/red or red in white. Same goes after the spawn.

As to artificial, not jigs, I like to slow roll a beetle spin. It has always been pretty effective.

Milk Money and BlueGrass are next in line for me.
