Gauging interest for an "Unofficial Greatest Movie of All-Time" bracket

I've been thinking a lot about this (for a message board topic that is, so TENS of minutes). Would anybody be interested in participating in a Greatest Movie of All-Time tournament? Now this isn't the WADS where there is great thought, input, and general intelligence put into the lists. This would be more on the lines of the Hottest Actress of All-Time tournament (here forth known as HAAT) we (IWY) did.
The way this would work is we would have 4 major brackets
2000's
1999-1980
1979-1960
1959- beginning of time
in each of those brackets there would be 16 movies, these movies would be decided in a nomination thread much the same way the HAAT bracket was decided. So we (I) would gather nominations in a separate thread for 2-3 days, I would then list all the nominations in one thread, people can vote for the ones they want to get in, the top 16 would get in and be bracketed based on the votes they got. then we would go through the bracket and vote in the form of 16-8-4. The top 4 from each bracket (so 16 total) would all go into another bracket and be re seeded based on votes. The final tournament would be a 16-8-4-2-CHAMPION format.
I know some of you may not like the fact that you have to put all movies made after 1960 into one bracket yet the 2000's gets one all to itself. But honestly if we didn't bracket it like this we would end up with a final 8 of 6 movies made after 2000, The Godfather, and The Shawshank Redemption.
To make it (slightly) easier, all movies with sequels (LOtR, Godfather, Star Wars, ect...) will be combined into one movie, so you can think of more of the greatest story ever told by film if you like. Movie's with sequels will be put in the time period of when the FIRST movie was released. The ONLY exception to this sequels rule will be in the nomination round, you may nominate only one movie from a series (Ala just the Phantom Menace ), that movie will go into the time period of when it was released, and if it beats the entire series it will go in and the series will not.
**Basically either the whole series will go, or just the one movie, whichever gets more votes, even if they are both in the top 16 they WILL NOT both go into the bracket. We will do all the nomination threads first. So if you want say Star Wars episode 5 (1980) over the whole series (1977), you better make sure it gets more votes, even though it's in a different bracket, the higher vote getter will go in to it's appropriate bracket, the one with less votes WILL NOT GO IN
This is the best way I think we can do a tournament like this with having any shot of a good top 4-8 movies with a real winner and not the Mila Kunis of movies (what's hot right now).
The ONLY other possible way to do this would be to bracket them based on type of movie, but then we would either have to find 4 general types of movies to categorize movies in, or extend it to 8 which is a lot of brackets and with newer technology/general age of people on here = newer movies will filter to the top. Slicing it up based off of eras guarantees we have a good mix of movies from different times represented in the tournament.
All of this could be subject to change if y'all have a better or easier way to do this, or any rules we find to be essential to make this work.
*****Disclaimer*****
This is not supposed to be an end all be all of the greatest movie ever, it is supposed to be fun, we are not professional movie critics, we are mostly college football fans that found this wonderful board and it is a way to represent what we as a whole enjoy. I know many of us pretend to Roger Ebert, but we aren't, he's dead, move on...
So, let me know if you like the idea and
Or, if you think it's stupid, and nobody wants to do it than

Also all nominations would need to be bolded with the year they were released

No, the constant spamming of brackets and rankings on here gets old

Definitely a legitimate opinion, that's why I started this thread, to see if it's something people on here would want. If not, it is a lot of work for me so I won't do it

Good idea. Make it a June or July thing.

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure - 1989
if this doesn't make it onto the bracket.

Round one would put Bill and Ted's vs Wayne's World - 1992

I appreciate the enthusiasm, however, we aren't at that stage yet

I'm in. I dig the bracket idea, but what about genre sections instead? Drama/Horror/Comedy/Action? Just a thought...trying to contribute here

I would suggest these 4 brackets:
Early Era
Beginning of time-1930
Golden Age Era
1931-1959
Renaissance Era
1960-1979 (or 1989?)
Modern Era
1980 (or 1990)-Present
I know it won't work but hey, it's there

I'm trying to eliminate era bias as much as possible. But I don't think there are enough people on this board that know enough about pre 1930 movies to get a 16 movie bracket that people aren't just guessing at. It'd end up with just a handful of guys determining the whole bracket
