In all seriousness, if there is a player available around the 12th or 13th pick that we absolutely want, but know that he won't be there at 15, I wouldn't mind trading up.

Yes, with Certainty, all 3 OT picks are going to be gone most likely before lets say the 8th pick. That'll leave a handful of defensive players they may really like and all in all possible that nobody could be there at 15 that they truly wanted.

Down. This draft isnt great at the top. More value down the line.

Jenkins - 12 meh
Ellis - 7 or 5? either way
P-Rob - meh
Sullivan -
Jordan looks as though he will be the most productive and has the most upside of the defensive 1st rounders we've had in the last 10 years and he was picked at what, 24? I can deal with a mediocre or even bust at 24-32 easier than I can at 6 or 7, which Sully and Ellis were, and we traded up for BOTH of them and they ended up as the biggest busts.
I stand by opinion. QUIT TRADING UP B/C IT HASN'T WORKED FOR US

Nobody considered any of those guys elite or potentially elite. Jenkins was the only pick at that spot. We traded up for Ellis, but no one thought he'd be elite. PRob as the last pick of the first round and Jordan was 23rd or so. GTFO w/ Sullivan, that was a long time ago.
Star, Jordan, Mingo, Ashana and Jones all have potential eliteness. I'd take them or the OTs.

meh, ellis has been a disappoint when compared to his draft selection especially additional picks we gave up. He should have been a very good player in this league. We wouldn't have made trade if they thought otherwise.

Is it even possible to move up?

I recall that draft much differently. Everyone was talking about Dorsey and Ellis as stars and top 5 players that year, and there was debate over which would be better. Maybe I am recalling wrong, but that's how I remember it.

Just depends. If we could get Star or one of 2 top tackles I'd move up. We've got a handful of years to make a few runs. Let's load up before we have to blow this thing up.

Generally down is usually more fruitful than up. The team moving up is usually the one that has to pay some premium in the value of the picks.
This year specifically, the most I would like to see up would be two spots, That would cost the 4th Rd pick. That would mean jumping the Panthers. The only player I see fitting that scenario would be if Lotulelei was around at #13. They wouldn't be going after one of the 3-4 OLBs.
Otherwise, same as others have said. If THE guy is there take him. If not, a trade back would be fine.

Unless they can nab one of the top two tackles, move down. Get some quality depth on defense and some mid-round O-linemen with more picks. I could care less if they drafted in the back half of the 1st... I see a lot of potential boom/busts in the first round this year, and would rather the Saints avoid the risk.

yeah, that year hasn't worked out well for most in that Top 10.
1) Jake Long- no longer with Dolphins
2) Chris Long- meh, nothing great.
3) Matt Ryan
4) Darren McFadden- good player but gets hurt a lot.
5) Glenn Dorsey- might have been more noticed in a 4-3 defense? If DT's aren't getting sacks like John Randall or Warren Sapp, they suck according to most.
6) Vernon Gholston- workout warrior. BUST.
7) Sedrick Ellis- a few OK seasons but then pulled off a convincing disappearing act in seasons 4 and 5.
8) Derrick Harvey- Who?
9) Keith Rivers- Don't know you either.
10) Jerod Mayo- Solid pick.

I think that year it was Jake Long, Matt Ryan, McFadden and everyone else.
I remember a lot of talk about Dorsey, some about Gholson being a boom or bust and Mayo and Rivers being the "safe picks".
I just remember us trading up for Ellis and thinking WTF?
I now we needed a DT, but I think it was viewed as a reach. Not a HUGE reach, but a reach. That's my memory though.

both ellis and dorsey were highly touted and ranked DT's in that draft. We were gunning for one of them.

Down. There's no one in this draft that I love and just have to have.
