Delmonico is Well Worth It!

We were taken to our table immediately upon arrival in the front dining room. I love that room and the view of St. Charles at night. It’s not picturesque for many, but it is for me.
Cocktails were very generous and well made in addition to being served promptly. All of the service was spot on. We had pancetta wrapped dates and lamb and jalapeno stuffed fried queen olives with a thin crust that had been fried to a golden brown. I’d go back just for those. They were delicious. I think we got 6 of each for $6 per plate. I thought that was a good price for a restaurant.
For starters, I had the crab stuffed artichoke with oregano, pecorino and smoked tomato sauce. The sauce was strong and delicious. I wish there’d been a little more of it. I thought this was very good, but I’d try something different next time.
The oysters Bienville pan roast with house made apple smoked bacon, mushrooms, parmesan and peychaud bitters was delicious and generous. I'd consider ordering that one, but there were several apps of interest to me. I don't know, though. I have a hard time bypassing this one.
The other diner had the hearts of romaine Caesar salad. Very fresh beautiful lettuce and large. Lots of food here.
Two of us had the fresh Gulf fish of the day which was flounder and pan sautéed with a very light seasoning and slight dust of flour and shrimp and eggplant gratin delmonico, swiss chard, fennel, kalamata olive tapenade, herbsaint butter. It was delicious. The gratin was okay, but the swiss chard with fennel had a lot of flavor and I loved that. There was more to it than just the fennel, but I couldn’t nail what it was. I'm still thinking about it. I'm a sucker for fresh flounder.
My pics are a bit dark because my flash was too bright for this restaurant. The dark under the fish is the chard.
The other diner had the Louisiana drum meuniere with olive oil poached artichoke, roasted fingerling potatoes, local blue crab, young arugula and grape tomatoes. It was a huge piece of fish. In fact, all of the entrees were extremely generous. This dish was excellent also.
We've been on a brussel sprouts kick lately so we ordered the special side of caramelized brussel sprouts with Delmonico bacon, grape tomato, manchego and toasted almonds. It was outstanding. We ate every single bite of it and Delmonico sent the recipe today scaled down for the home cook.
For dessert, we had the special blue cheese blueberry bread pudding with pink lemonade sherbet, blueberry compote and almond streusel. Really excellent combination of flavors. The bread pudding by itself was good, but it needed that compote and together it was delicious. The candied almonds were great.
We were there just about exactly 2 hours and it was a great fine dining experience. There is an extensive wine list, literally a huge book. I didn't look at it as I stuck with my Hendrick's the entire night.
This was my second time to eat here and there will definitely be a third time and so on. There were plenty of more adventurous choices on the menu, but we are fresh fish lovers and have a hard time bypassing it.
ETA: We found the bill conservative considering the meal we had.

I have eaten at the Delmonico's in Las Vegas and I can't think of a dining experience I have ever had that was better.

I went there recently and liked it a lot too. My gf got the duck breast and I had the jerk spiced lamb. Both were superb.

If you go again, don't bypass the olives. I had to really restrain myself from eating more than two of them. I wanted to order 6 more and go hide in the bathroom with the bowl.

Very good review, Gris.
This is one of those places we have not been to yet, but has been on the back burner.
I am a particular fan of brussel sprouts..........so hearing of a good sprout dish there is especially enticing.
Will try to go to Delmonico on our next trip to NOLA.

I've never been here, but I'll fix that in the next year or two. The quality doesn't surprise me...seems to be an Emeril characteristic ...NOLA in the FQ presents very well in what I perceive is a slightly more casual fashion.

Gris - can you share the recipe they gave you? Great review.
eta - never mind, found your other post. Recipe looks great. Thanks.

Well done Gris Gris
One of the best meals I have ever had years ago.
Always loved this place since the first time I ate there one month pre-Katrina
The best service available with out being overbearing.
And the table @ the front bay window overlooking St. Charles is with out a doubt the way to go.
But I miss the Oyster/Bacon/Brie app they used to have on the menu.
Delmonico and Commanders in the same week, I must say I am a little jealous.
Would you consider me for adoption ?

Were you afraid to use your flash in there? The pictures are really dark.

Yes. The guy next to us was flashing his camera and it was pretty bright. I did the best I could.
By the way, the dress at Delmonico is business casual though I saw a table of 5 more casual than that. It was fine. Commander's is about the same but they'd like a jacket worn at night.
Gee, I wanted you to adopt me and cook for me.
