Those were the days! The most beautiful site in a perfect bowl with no upper decks watching LSU beat Ole Miss on the last play of the game with a Bert Jones TD pass! Anyone remember these years/games?

Sure. I don't remember them too well as far as who I saw them play, as I would have been about 7. But, I distinctly remember actually going a couple of times then.

Saw games with no upper decks . . . witnessed "Big Red" screaming "Tiger Bait" . . . witnessed Mike IV roaring into the PA system mic (very cool) and played KA fraternity in the Charity Bowl (full pads in Tiger Stadium) with Steve Ensminger as our coach.

Lordy! I miss those days. Thanks for the reminder.

Bert Jones to Brad Davis was epic but my favourite of all time is still '71 LSU - Notre "Damn" Dame...28 -8 and the crowd rushed the field and carried Bert Jones and Andy Hamilton off the field afterward !!!

By the way....why isn't Andy Hamilton in the LSU Hall of Fame...one of the top receivers in the nation his Jr. and Sr. year ?

I went to an Ole Miss game when I was a kid sometime in the late 60's. Then I went to most home games as a student in '76-77 before they completed the West Upper.

12 years old standing in the southeast corner endzone as this happened. Still the greatest play ever for me.

I saw the LSU vs NC game in 47 or 48 when it was still a horseshoe stadium.

I lived in the stadium from 56-57 when it had no upper decks - saw every home game there from 56-59 seasons.

Have been back for selected games in ever configuration since then.

The student years were the very best.

Saw that my Junior year
Saw LSU score on their first offensive play during Homecoming game against Auburn 2 years before
Saw Tommy Casaanova run back 2 punt returns for TD and Craig Burns another and LSU beat Arcjhie Manning and Ole Miss the year before

Sat in the top row (before the East Upper Deck was put in place) for the LSU-USC game.

Great times - great stadium

I was there that night and many others before there were any upper decks. Back then, the "upper deck" meant the south end zone upper deck. I sat in those seats from 1971 until I went to LSU in 1982. I was right in the corner where Jones threw the TD to Davis on the final play in 1972. The capacity at that time was about 67,500 and I thought that was just staggeringly huge.

Something about that second picture in your post seems wrong, though. The south end zone appears to be all one level without two separate decks, and the outside of the south end looks wrong. It looks like the north end but that's not how the real thing looks. Is that second photo real? It looks like an artist's rendering or a photoshop.

I was at that game, a kid at the time, sitting with my dad and brother, 10 rows up in the middle of the end zone seats where the play happened. I've bled purple since that moment.
