Let the Right One In (Some slight spoilers below OP)

What do you know; an actual great vampire romance movie. I've been meaning to watch this movie for a while, but I've just been turned off by the horror romance genre in general just because I've never really seen it work. But damn, does this movie absolutely pull it off. You actually get two people with actual personalities and aren't complete caricatures. This film was definitely a pleasant surprise that I wasn't expecting, and definitely recommend it to everyone here.
On a side note to people who have seen it, what was up with the vampire girl's junk?

I always wondered this as well.
Great movie nonetheless. Depressing arse ending though.

......What?! I just assumed that they would get into more detail than that towards the end, but they didn't. So yeah, definitely not as nice of a film on a second impression. Seems more and more like a horror film (I knew it was somewhat) where "she" is farming him to be her next caretaker or something.

Yep its a boy.
Which is why it tells him "I'm not a girl"
But obviously we are thinking she's hinting at being a vampire.

you should put spoilers in the title now that you RWQ'd that, or delete the RWQ
when the vampire says "i'm not a girl," it didn't mean that it's a vampire
why? did you hate the crying game, too?
i don't think that's what it is. i think people have said in the book the old man is a pedo

I mean, it slightly crossed my mind when she said that, but I then just immediately knew about her being a vampire to where I didn't think anything of it really.

that's why the reveal is slight and subtle

No, I still like the film, this information is just a massive curve ball on what I thought the movie was.

OK, that makes sense. I was just getting concerned with Oskar getting completely and utterly screwed in the end.

It was. I'm sure if I thought about it some more, I would have figured it out, I just got finished with it a half hour ago so I haven't had much time to digest the movie.

if he lives out his days with the vampire enjoying its company, and he has to kill people for it...i don't think that's horrible
i mean it killed people for him

If it weren't for the awful CGI cat scene it would be a perfect film.

He is. He's the new servant for the vampire, and he will be discarded when he gets old and useless as well. This is not a beautiful love tale, it is the story of a predator who takes advantage of a lonely, awkward child desperate for attention.
Which is what makes it great. It's dressed up as a love tale, when it's really a sexual predator snaring another victim.

Wait, are we talking about the American version or the Swedish?
O ok. The Swedish version. I don't believe they have this pedo relationship and the castration thing in the American version. It is very much about this vampire stuck in a girl's body who falls in love with lonely boys who will do her bidding. There is no sense of pedophilia.

Yeah, the American version was a pretty well-done remake, but it removed some of the darker elements of the original.
Has anyone here read the book? Worth the read?

It was good, certainly worth a read. It is however a case where I enjoyed the movie more than the book.

I prefer the American version, but I'm in the minority. Great movie; one of my favorites of the last decade.

I went in to the remake expecting to hate it, but I loved it. Moretz and McPhee were both great in it.

Me, too, actually.

I definitely prefer the Swedish version and thought the theme was about loss of innocence, loneliness due to being different, and how unfair the world can be. Beautiful film IMO.
