1994 West Monroe football. LHSAA rules Henry Mack is ineligible and WM must forfeit first 5 games. They were 4-1 at the time. Then after sitting out a week, he's ruled eligible. BUT...WM still forfeits first 5 games. How the frick can you be eligible but the team must forfeit half their season? WM missed the playoffs.

but I thought courts had no jurisdiction over the LHSAA?

Thats the rule every game an ineligible player plays in is a forfeit. St aug went o-10 once...and were 10-0

I have no problem with forfeiting games for an ineligible player. The question is how can they say he's too old, force forfeits, then a week later say he's not too old and allow him to play the last 3 games?

How can they rule this season on something that should have been ruled on three years ago? Wtf is that?

The LHSAA proved spineless last year when they let Zachary back into the baseball playoffs at the last minute. If they had any backbone, they would stick to their rulings. What that showed me last year is that no team should ever sit back and allow the LHSAA make a ruling against them. Threaten a lawsuit, get a few parents to go and picket in front of the office and the LHSAA will cave.
(This is not about whether the decision against Zachary was right or wrong, but rather about the fact that the LHSAA made a ruling, and then caved when the Zachary people wouldn't go away quietly)

well said 19...
What happened in 1981 with West Jeff, Ehret and Slidell is stil mind boggling.
they also let the banned parent return to attending games.
in 81.. going into week ten ehret wj and slidell all had one district loss... ehret to slidell, slidell to WJ and WJ to bonnabel.
after week 10 - wj had two.. lost to ehret in last game... ehret and slidell are in playoffs.. monday in is reported bonnabel used and ineligible player in a couple of games - including WJ... forfeit ensues... forfiet.. by virtue of point system.. makes WJ the district champs, slidell 2nd place and ehret third...
ehret was scheduled to play HC in first round game.. much consternation.. playoffs were set.. HC ehret game gets pushed back to sunday... while it gets sorted out...
WJ gets dumped on....apparently didn't file something fast enough....
Ehret goes on to win state title.

Private school problems. We wouldn't be dealing with this if there was a split.
Thank you Jesus or in this thread Choupique19
If the GD recruiting would stop, this would go away. For the recruiting to stop, LHSAA needs to split the schools and then allow the private schools to police themselves

it's funny most of these ineligibility cases are with public schools...

Public schools recruit too.

If you think this would stop recruiting, you have no grasp on the situation.

how do we know this girl was recruited?

She is in 10th grade now. The ruling is for current season. She is in her third year at Vandebilt and never sat out a year. Why didn't someone question this previously to where she would have been ruled ineligible back then.
At the time the idiot Head Coach was also the AD!!!
Hmmmmmm...
She was fired from that job but kept the HC job.
Laury Dupont, the current AD, turned it in to LHSAA when it came to his attention at the beginning of the playoffs.
The rest is...?

Sometimes I think that the whole purpose of schools - to provide a well rounded education which focuses on academics but also provides enough access to athletics to promote physical fitness, esprit de corps, etc. - tends to get overshadowed somewhat when the ultra competitive juices get flowing.
In a perfect world, I think things like recruiting, enrolling kids who would not go to a particular school except for a certain sport, year round devotion to one sport to the exclusion of others, etc. would be minimized. But of course I realize that's a pipe dream. Whenever score is being kept it's in our nature to go to lengths to compete and win. And that's a good thing, especially when it comes to things like teamwork, discipline, etc. But of course it doesn't end with that. Schools will naturally want to get the best athletes they can so as to have as good a chance as they can to win. And each sport will want their player to concentrate on that sport year round so as to become as proficient as possible at it.
Not making any judgments. It's just the way it is.
