I actually think Paul holds his own against Parker head to head. Now the man that owns Paul is Derek Rose. He kills Paul.
Paul has a history dating back to college of collapsing when players/teams get under his skin. He doesn't handle that sort of pressure well. That one Hornets postseason run -when CP3 DOMINATED Jason Kidd and then the Hornets barely lost to the Spurs in 7 was great, but it's inexcusable for the 'best' pg in the game - and objectively, I think he is- to put up a performance like tonightg

I love CP3. One of my favorite players but Parker has been on a different planet than any other PG this year. And yes Parker is an attack the basket guy but his midrange may be the best in the NBA for a PG.

When was the last time Paul has showed up in prime time? He will end up top 3 regular season point guards ever, but at this rate, his postseason legacy is a joke. No rings, don't mean everything, but he lets players like Parker make him their bitch when it counts
His postseason legacy is a joke because of the teams he was on? The coaches? Pretty sure he never had a Pop coaching him or a Duncan or Ginobili playing along side him.
Anyway, CP in 34 playoff games goes
21PPG, 10 APG, 5 RPG, 2 SPG on 47% FG.
Parker goes
19 PPG, 5 APG, 3 RPG, 1 SPG on 46% FG.

58 points mean anything to you?
ETA: As I said, he had that one great run, but the Hornets never made a dent in the playoffs other than that.

Are we talking better teams or better PGs?
Rasual Butler and an old, broke down Peja were starters on the team that got beat down by Denver. West, Paul and Chandler are the only 3 players still in the league off of that team. Seriously.

Take Paul off the 2008 Hornets, who nearly took down the defending champs, and how many games do they win with West and Peja leading the way on offense? 30 games?
Take Paul off the Clippers and how many games do they win?
Paul's impact is similar to LeBron's. Only LeBron and Durant are better players this year.

Top 15 PG of all time and yes I counting Frazier and Oscar as PGs if not he could be argued as top 10/11

and chandler was battling injuries
I don't like paul, but give him ginobli and the assists category would be a much larger gap than the sizable gap it already is

When does Tony Parker get credit
For some unknown reason he doesn't get the benefit of the "Rings" argument like virtually every other great player who wins multiple titles.
The "Ring" guys always point to rings for some guys, but if you ask them to list their all time best PGs or even current best PGs, Tony Parker is always below guys who don't have any rings.
GO figure.

Paul is definitely in the same tier as them. He is well on his way to becoming the best or second best point guard ever. Magic's reputation will be hard to surpass.

but the consensus for a while now is that Parker isn't in his class
quote:This is what i'm getting at.
remember threads just a year or so ago saying that Parker wasn't in even in the top 5. Yet there was still live for Deron Williams too.
Those same guys that preach about rings will list 8 guys ahead of Tony Parker on their PG list, and those 8 guys COMBINED don't have as many rings as Parker

don't have a problem with anyone who says TP, CP, or RW is their favorite point guard in the NBA today... but anyone who says one is head and shoulders better than the others seems weird to me.
Chris Paul is head and shoulders better than every PG in the league.

quote:Certainly one of the dumber things I've read on here
I knew somebody would use assists to say Paul was a better distributor, and that's why I said with making the extra pass and whatnot. Paul gets an assist by throwing it to Blake who gets a shot to go. The Spurs are free flowing with Parker leading the way. Parker's assists aren't something to pad the stats, but necessary in the way the Spurs run their offense...if that makes sense. In other words, Parker does a better job of finding people at point blank range wide open.

Last 4 seasons:
Parker:
10-15 feet: 39% 38% 45% 50%
16-23 feet: 37% 36% 39% 43%
Paul:
10-15 feet: 51% 42% 44% 47%
16-23 feet: 45% 45% 44% 47%
While Parker is definitely comparable this year, it's not necessarily better than Paul, and Paul has certainly been better basically every previous year, going back further than 4 years as well.

Parker has the rings. He's a great PG. Paul is going to go down at least as a top 3 ever, probably the best ever if he stays healthy.
Can this guy win something besides all star game MVP before we crown him the GOAT??

Which part of that sentence is incorrect?

I've watched both teams numerous times, including last night. You're an imbecile if you think Paul racks up assists by just tossing the ball to Griffin in the post and letting Griffin do the work. I'm throwing you into the same class of doofus since your go-to is the "I guess you haven't watched them play" bullshite.

quote:teflon Chris at it again. I've never seen someone- maybe d-wade 2 years ago- get so much credit for winning and zero blame for losing. Everyone is ready to crown his arse and he's never even made it out of his conference before. He's a great (current) player, but eventually the 08 playoffs is the anomaly and every other year is the norm. Everyone holds him in such high esteem, but no one takes him to task for losing-- it's ALWAYS someone else's fault
