Because fans fell far short of selling out LSU’s allotment of 16,000 tickets to the Dec. 31 game, the athletic department is currently facing an estimated $154,500 deficit from the Tigers’ trip to Atlanta.

If LSU had gone to another bowl, say the Cotton in Arlington, Texas, the school would likely have turned a profit. LSU season-ticket holders pre-ordered more than 16,500 Cotton Bowl tickets, outstripping the allotment of 12,500 that the school would have received from that game. “If we had gone to the Cotton Bowl or one of those Florida bowls,” Alleva said, “I think we would have sold out.”

Shocking. That thing was a cluster from the day it was announced.

It's because our fans are smart enough to not pay face value for tickets to an exhibition game.

No shite? Our fans don't want to go to the Peach Bowl? Who would of thunk it? lol

Another SEC screw job to LSU.

Good, they deserve to, hope they learned a lesson. It was nice to see the Athletic Department get it stuck to them, after bending fans over as much as they do.

So the moral of the story is, don't get selected for the chick fil a bowl and you won't lose money. Pagin Les Miles.

Isn't that based on LSU splitting the chick-fil-a money with the SEC and not accounting for the money LSU will get from the other SEC team bowl money?

It all seems so pathetic now that we lost the game. We were too good for what?
Posted on 2/19/13 at 12:46 pm to Dan
no way we end up with a deficit after splitting bowl payouts with the rest of the league.

We purchased our tickets from LSU. We are good fans.

It was a bad idea from the beginning. Criticism of the decision is warranted IMO. You know its bad when all the ranters are right.

Why would the Cotton Bowl give a smaller allotment of tickets than the Chick Fil A Bowl?
Cotton bowl sells more tickets outside of sales to the participating teams because it's a more popular game. Chicken bowl has a harder time selling tickets so it makes the teams buy more.

Nobody wants to go to freaking Atlanta. People only have so many days off they can use and so much money they're willing to spend to see a bowl game. The matchup was great (two top 10 teams), but i think USCe beating Clemson took the luster off the game a little bit. That plus the fact that nobody wants to vacation in Atlanta. Just like nobody wants to go see a game in Houston.

Shocking? Wait. No it isn't. Incoming LSU has the worst fans in the NCAA...
