IMO, you can have the same concept by taking the same plot and tweaking it slightly to not split the opposing factions into racial categories. There's no way in hell a game like that would get the green light. If it did, it would get drug over the coals by every person in the media ever. And fairly so, there's pretty much no way that you can do that without it devolving into stereotypes or possibly more offensive characterizations. You have to differentiate each faction in some way, which pretty much means equating attributes to them. That's just easier to do with elves, aliens, or some other imaginary subset. Heck of a lot harder to offend people like that. But like I said, that's just my opinion.
