TKDR / Bane question

I know the movie plot holes and complaints are all over the web, but this has always bothered me...and I haven't seen it talked about (which makes me think that I missed something glaringly obvious).
Ok, so Batman believes Bane made the jump out of the pit as a child. But the prisoners also say that he was attacked. How can he believe that? If he escaped, then how did he get attacked later in life? I mean he says in their fight that he was born in darkness and didn't see the light until he was a man. But he made the jump out as a kid.
Is batman dumb? It would seem that if someone told him that only one person ever escaped the pit...and it was a kid, then the first person that he would rule OUT is Bane...based on what he just told him in the fight they JUST had.
Did I miss something?

You didn't miss anything. Wayne never picked up on it.

TKDR Batman, unlike DC Batman, was not a smart man. His detective skills were kinda crappy.

Batman was getting obliterated in that first fight, and his head pounded so much that his mask broke. He probably wasn't hanging on Bane's every word like we were.

As much I love the Nolan Batman movies and will always cherish them, this is very much a legit complaint. We never got to see any hardcore detective work Batman can be famous for in the comics. I guess the closest we got to Batman trying to uncover a mystery was the mystery of Ras Al Ghul actually being Henry Ducard.
And by they way, Background Transparent Avi for you.

Batman just never made the connection.

That's what happens when you are probably in your late thirties, your body is not as fast it used to be and you've been out of action for 8 years.

I brought up a similar complaint about this here and was told that I didn't know what I was talking about. I guess I needed to wait for everyone to stop having a hard on for this movie.

I was about to post something similar, and at that point in the fight, Bruce was scared out of his mind, because he knew he wasn't up to muster.

Thought it was talia that made the jump as a kid and bane stayed and got the shite kicked out of him? I only watched it once. Havent been motivated to watch it again.

Well yes
The girl made the jump out yes (i think)
but
Batman assumed it was Bane (right?) until he figured it out at the end..
(edit i could be wrong, idk, i only saw it once)

Bane didn't make the jump. It was Talia that made the jump as a child.
Bane protected her when she was in the pit. Her mom kept her hair short so everyone thought she was a boy.

I thought, and this is a big assumption I suppose, is that bruce thought bane was the child(who made the jump) until the end when he realized it was talia who really escaped, and bane was left behind.

Yes, that is how I remember perceiving it.
So the OP question is valid.

You have a firm grasp of the obvious. Kidding.
My problem is with Bruce's deduction skills.
There is a man who was mauled by the inmates requiring crude surgical fixation of his bloody face and a mask to deliver medicinal marijuana, or some such bullshite. That's Bane.
So a boy escaped and Bruce is like, that must be Bane. Uh, what? everyone told you he was attacked. So unless they said he came back, then that ain't him. What made him think that Bane's story fits both of those scenarios?
Oh well, it gets harder to take this movie seriously. I still love Begins, though.

Well...in Bruce's defense, he didn't have the benefit of flashbacks like the audience did. All he knows is that at some point while he was in prison, Bane was attacked. The guy telling the story never says anything more than that.

I didn't think the story early in the movie said Bane was the one who was beaten. They simply said the child had a protector. I thought Bruce just assumed this protector was dead and gone. Been a while since I've seen it though. I may be way off.

Yea, in this story, it's like Fox and Gordon are the "brains," and Batman is more of an idea guy. He came up with the eco-location crap and reverse parachuting, but Fox implemented it. And Gordon seemed to be the detective brains.

Thanks, but it looks like it has some "fuzz" around it?
